Yes I know we have covered this before to some extent but the question remains, why are we .TV owners continuing to support Sedo when Tim Schumacher CEO & Co-Founder of Sedo.com continues to do whatever he can to stifle the growth of .TV

from the DN JOURNAL

He rates .com, .net and .eu as Holds (.eu was downgraded from a Buy rating in October). Schumacher advises selling .biz, .cc, .ws and .tv.
Naming names in that manner will obviously make some people happy and leave others annoyed. There has been a lot of buzz around .tv this year since DemandMedia’s eNom has taken over management of the registry from Verisign with big marketing plans ahead (starting with a .tv relaunch dinner in Las Vegas next month that I will be attending).

Given that seemingly positive new turn for .tv, I asked Schumacher about his sell rating. He said that he still has reservations about small country code extensions (.tv actually represents the island nation of Tuvalu) being marketed to mean something else and is not convinced the strategy will work.

How can he be serious when companies like MLB BUD TNT the list goes on and on are promoting .TV for the obvious merits of its worldwide recognition for TELEVISION and yet he can say in an interview, while apparently completely sane that:

he said that he still has reservations about small country code extensions (.tv actually represents the island nation of Tuvalu) being marketed to mean something else and is not convinced the strategy will work

It bears repeating because it such such a ludicrous statement, not because I've invested money in .TV but because the name is being used by nobody for the purpose of promoting Tuvalu. The guy continues to treat .TV as a second class citizen and we should not give part of our hard earned money to someone who is actually biting the hands that feed him.

Please provide me input on where I should move my domains to and any feelings you have on this. We can make a difference, no matter how small if we band together on this, I have been selling lots of .tv names on sedo but apparently Mr. Clueless still isn't sold.

Perhaps EQ said it best himself in an earlier post:

I have been meaning to address Tim Schumacher's ignorance in other venues. I spoke to Ron Jackson who confronted Schumacher at Domainfest in LA. Schumacher using the "sell rating" on certain domains extensions like they were stocks is foolish in the first place. That is my background started trading stocks at 16 had My series 7 (brokers License)at 21 in 93 won Wharton's school of Business trading challenge. So I find this analogy to be ridiculous because where it is fine to refer to .com as a "Blue Chip" a reference that in stocks refers to the biggest usually most stable is fine. It helps newbies understand the significance of .com But to breakdown all ext's makes no sense at all.

Well Ron mentioned to Schumacher that .tv had a fresh look with Demand media and he said to ron it was just a repurposed cc tld of a thirld world nation. Showing how clueless he and his organization are. For this reason I boycott selling any domains on SEDO I tell people to make the offer at Afternic. Tim maybe you can tell your clients why you only pay for the first click and no other clicks in your parking program? When you can answer that maybe you would step up a notch in credibility

Well I saw Sedo pimping .eu when everyone in Europe knew that the cretins in EURid had made a complete mess of the ccTLD by allowing it to be squatted/warehoused to hell. That encouraged a certain cynicism about the clue level in Sedo. All they seem to go on are previous domain sales and they have no magic insight into how a domain will develop.

As for .tv - there is always an element of uncertainty over "repurposed" ccTLDs because the government of the country could effectively take back the ccTLD. However .tv is an advertising domain rather than a serious multipurpose domain. Its value is directly connected with the medium of television or video to some extent. There isn't much else going for it - it really is a specialist domain. Thus the ordinary mass market rules, such as those that Sedo might apply to to generic TLDs may be wrong for .tv ccTLD.

Regards...jmcc

I am already a part of a sedo/1and1 boycott. Pulled all of my domains and sent them a boycott email. They in turn spammed me from dozens of domains for about a couple weeks.

He's been beating that drum for a LONG time. 8-X

I never understood why everyone here was using Sedo as a trading platform between members here, when A. the lack of support Sedo gives the extension and B. it costs you money that could have been pocketed by negotiating directly. :-/

I do find it funny however, that he is attending the DM launch party after his constant beat down of the extension... _\|/_

Sounds like you have good intentions but not listing .tv domains at sedo is a meaningless protest. It's not going to matter to Sedo.

The best thing we can do is to develop and promote .tv as much as we can so we can actually increase the value of .tv and FORCE Sedo to recognize that they WANT .tv domains listed BECAUSE they are valuable.

Also, I don't like the negativity of this post. There are too many other forums with people that contribute nothing by posting negative comments.

Let's collectively do SOMETHING rather than NOTHING.

Send Tim links to your developed sites. Send him a .tv press release. Send him the Bud.tv sites of the world. Convince him to rethink .tv and he just might become a friend of .tv. A boycott will do NOTHING to convince him that .tv is a good extension.

Bottom line is that it doesn't matter what Tim thinks...

The movement is going to happen with or with out him, He doesn't play a significant role in how .tv will be mass media to the public.. So case closed :)

well, I'm convinced. I was looking at Sedo for my first sales venture but I won't support someone who won't support me. Even if it's only a few voices, it's a matter of principle. In less than a decade a generation of people will have grown up with .tv meaning tv. I think they will never have heard of Tuvalu (meaning no disrespect to the people of Tuvalu). Ask a 15 year old what .com originally represented, and does he or she care.
As far as it being taken back by the local gov't in 2015 when the contract expires, I seriously doubt that they will disrupt what has become the major export of the country.

I agree, the best thing we can do is develop and promote .TV, if we get that right, everything else that follows will be positive with or without Sedo.

I'll chime in as a .tv owner, albeit a small one, but nonetheless. I have been boycotting sedo ever since I learned they are 41% owned by 8-X 1and1.com 8-X, the worst internet company on the planet. The only reason that it's registerfly on the coals and not 8-X 1and1.com 8-X is marketshare.

Admittedly, I am starving, but I suffer with my boycott just the same. I only sell me names on forums, which actuall saves me the stupid commission anyway.

I support the boycott.

Are you sure Sedo is 41% owned by 1and1?

I have never heard that before.
