I've been in the domain world for the last month or so. I've been reading the various domain forums and while I don't have any actual statistics, I get the feeling that nearly all the users are male. If I'm right, that's very interesting. I know I've ran forums dealing with general issues like politics, or a technology blog, and I had plenty of women involved. What is it about domain investing?

So, I'd like to conduct a poll to see what the gender makeup of users is here. Please be honest.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Hi slobizman, there are definetly some woman here at namepros, but you are right, seems to be mainly male domainers.

No idea why ? should it not be "slobizwoman" ! :hi:

Same goes for software development, more men than women. Some sectors online are more male dominated than others. However, if you for example go to online dating portals or gaming sites you will see just as many women as men.

I guess that alot of the people who get into domain reselling "probably" previously started off doing webdesign to some level and then heared of the potential of making money for domain names.

Thats what got me interested in them. :-/

Wow - I just voted and so far I'm the only woman. I knew it was pretty male-skewed here, but I didn't expect that.

It's a perception thing, like so many other gender issues. Women aren't encouraged to go into business ventures the way men are. I think the women domain investors and webmasters probably talk about their business less with their female friends than with male friends. Honestly, I wouldn't even consider bringing up the subject at lunch with the girls at work because they'd all look at me like I was nuts.

It's pretty boring conversation if you're not actually involved in it, I bore my mate all the time

This is interesting. Thanks everyone for participating. I hope more keep answering to get a good statistical sampling.

After this one, I'd love to go one that asks which age group a person is in--under 16, 16-20, 21-29, 31-39, etc.

I'm a male too and don't see many womens, i'm sure if there were a box you could write male or female when registering the 85% would be male!

I am a female domainer! Lol. There are many "hidden" female domainers in this forum, one that I personally admire alot is ManicGirl. She's awesome! It's common to see the ratio of males higher than that of females when it comes to technological businesses. That will be the same ratio for engineers and architects.

Cheers,
Flora. :xf.love:
