Why is it so hard to get an authorisation code?

I regged a number of .sg domains with an authorised registrar in australia. About a week ago, I asked them (spoke to two different persons) to give me the authorisation code for transfering some domains.

They said they will look into it, will sent it to me but nothing received. Today after another call, they sent me my login password.

I told them that there is a difference between a login password and an authorization code. They apologize and said they will sent it to me soon.

At this moment, I am still waiting.

Why would a registrar want to make it so difficult for a person to get an authorization code?

And selective in hearing?

perhaps there is a lack of communication skills somewhere... (lol, sorry i had to.)

the only person who should have access to an authorization code is you, not any employee, otherwise they can steal your domain(s). you should login to the registrar's website and look for it, or check their faq for how to obtain your authorization code (epp key).

Usually you find it in domain control panel. Some ccTLDs which you have to reg locally doesn't have control panels.

Thanks for the replies guys...and for the pun too :hehe:

I just received the authorization code. They gave me one code to apply to all the domains.

For them, their system is that I have to write in to a specific person (the person who attended to me in the phone conversation) and request for it, then they will generate it at their backend and reply me via email. The auth code and even my login password are known to their service operators.

It seems that is their system.
