Why .eu will be the biggest failure in history.

Man anyone is so on the wrong road if you think .eu will be anything but a big failure.

For instance,
.de is the prime extension for germany and most businesses in germany operate IN GERMANY so all they are interested in is .de and MAYBE .com if .de is taken.

If a german business operates internationally all they want is the .de and the.com

Same applies for any other european country as they all have their well-established own county codes extensions.

Much like US users are used to typein .com or as a business don't want anything else than .com and maybe .net it's the same in each individual country.

Again and again and again:

No matter how much some speculators wish the situation was different, it's just a big fat FACT that we europeans (unless it's about politics, mainly when it comes to US vs. Europe) don't consider us to be europeans but germans, brits, french or whatever.

There is so absolutely no demand or need for .eu by endusers it's absolutely nonsense to speculate on .eu domains.

.eu will be a bigger failure than .biz and .info combined,
i even predict .la will be more of a success than .eu.

Remember my words - the only .eu names you will be able to resell after you registered them will be the ones another reseller will buy from you but i predict ZERO sales to endusers.

And then, after like 6 months you will realize it was just another bubble.

Or hold on for like 10 years in *hopes* that someday there will be something like 1 country called Europe and all people living there will identify with .eu.

Until that happens, have fun with the .eu renewal fees.

It's funny how some people still insist on the success of .eu although they don't even live in an european country but still believe things would be the same here like Europe was just something like the USA (a big country with different states) when in fact Europe is just a pot with with different countries in it, all having thier very own national identity, culture and so on.
Like, for most spanish people germany is so much different from their own country and culture like it is for most US folk when they think of "Europe".

That's the most common misconception by US folks i guess: to think there is such a thing like a country called Europe - there plain isn't.

We always laugh when someone says "I'm going to Europe for vacation" because for us it's like "Uh which COUNTRY to you go to then ? " For us it sounds like as if someone would say "I'm going to Asia for vacation" or "I'm going to planet earth for vacation".

And no, i'm not against the EU or anything, this comment isn't meant in any poitical way either - it's just about what the FACTS are in REALITY.

So, to conclude in a scientific appropriate manner lemme say this:

.eu is WISHFUL THINKING

Period.

I completely agree. Continental domains are silly.

Continental domains are silly.

So true.

And fake city domain extensions like .la? D-:

Thanks for sharing your perspective on .EU beatz.

I have no doubt that speculators will jump on .EU like crazy. Language differences should be an issue as well. What language would you use to speculate in .EU? English, German, Italian, French, Spanish? D-:

Many are...but few are successfull. As market grows and grows people will find that .us or .eu suits their business most..obviously .eu will be a failure because of the fact that many countries reside in europe that already have their extensions..

.us isn't as bad as .eu since not every state has their .extension

.la will be a failure due to the population however you would be surprised that los angeles airport already has contracts to acquire few domains for .la information

:)

I completely agree with you, adill.

Continental domains are silly and pricy, but that just depends. .us is okay, I guess, but I would never buy one of those domains ending with that.

About .la ... Someone could just say, 'Oh, hey! Louisiana!' That'd be funny, though!

There are a few thousand Indian .CO.IN domain names registered. The reason why there are so few registrants is India has a policy of not allowing anyone to register the domain names. You have to have an established business, industry, organisation or be a professional like a doctor or an engineer. The others can register only a subdomain.

It is a policy that has gained appreciation from the Indian citizens because India has been target of hackers from across the border. They would have lapped up all the domains just to put up propaganda websites or for profit.

It also gives the ordinary businessman or professional from being victimsed by squatters and enterprising people with lot of black money to fool around with by bulk registering of good domain names.

I agree with Sol! .org, .com, and .net are awesome and anything else (ok, maaaybe .nu) is, at least by me, taken as a joke.

Sol: what happens when all that is left is long-hyphenated-dot-coms-nets-and-orgs-that-no-company-could-ever-want-or-anyone-remember.com? I think introducing new TLD's is a great idea. But dont get me wrong, these are definitly not worth much compared to .com/net/org but they give people a chance to get names that might be memorable.
Rajan: well hacking can take place either way. Domain squatters tend not to be using black money, from what I know. Maybe because of the current political situation in india, I could understand partially, but your .co.in domains seem similar to irelands tld. Useless in essence.
beatz: get me sex.eu. I will give ya 100$ for it. Since its so worthless :) Or I will settle for porn.eu for 75$. business.eu/cars.eu/music.eu/media.eu for 50$.
