Why do people say to wait on .pro to get $XXXX?

I've seen that several .pro's have sold for a lot.
Why will some of them go up in value? Isn't .com already pretty saturated?
Don't people need good names? .pro has been around since 2002. Five years later hasn't it's time come?

Are you sure .pro has been actively regisering domains since 2002 - I noticed that sex.pro was regstered Jan 1 - 2004.

Business.pro also has a registration dating back to 2004... I think you may be wrong on how old this TLD is.

The .pro registry has been around since 1 Jun 2004. The first official registry report I can find at icann.org is June 2004 and by the end of the month there were 695 .pros registered. Microsoft regged their name on 1 Jun 2004.

http://www.icann.org/tlds/monthly-reports/pro/registrypro-200406.pdf

This is a great report to read if you have an interest in the extension. Just change the 200406 to the date you want to look at. The most recent report is 200706.

Presumably, Sex.pro must have been registered before the 4 digit rule was introduced? Also, it must have been sold on in 2006 because the trademark owner isn't the same person as the current registrant.

I like to read the report to see what domains the registry owns. They started small with just registrypro.pro, registry.pro, and nic.pro in the June 04 ICANN report and have a monster collection now, nearly as a big as Michael Silver's. The weirdest one is Emma.pro, if only Emma's parents had had the foresight to call her Loan or Mortgage she'd be sitting on a goldmine.

Though some .Pro registrations date back to early 2004, March 2, 2005, marks the date that .Pro, via Encirca's ProForwarding Service, first became relevant. That said, .Pro has yet to enjoy a honeymoon period. Its breakout in March 2005 was less than warmly received (to say the least), Sedo, at least initially refused to accept .Pro listings, and moreover, the Registry, as has been the case since day one, and in stark contrast to those responsible for the marketing of .Mobi, have been quite passive in promoting the extension. In essence, the .Pro community, has faced uphill battles throughout. Some have understandably bowed out. Others, perhaps recognizing the inherent value/commercial relevancy, and promise that a less encumbered .Pro holds, have persevered. I am proud to belong to the latter. Moreover, I truly, aside from my financial interests in the extension, believe in the promise that .Pro potentially holds for every person(s) who either furnishes products/services in a workmanlike fashion and/or contracts for nothing less. Credentials display well on an office wall. My law license remains a source of pride for me. But I am also reminded of all of the lawyers I have encountered who, in my opinion, were professionals in name only. That's not to mean that I've not encountered lawyers who were exceptional, just that we need look beyond traditional definitions of what it means to be a Pro. For example, what value do we attribute a contractor who remodels our kitchen in an exemplary and timely fashion. Is this tradesman not a pro? I am further inclined to believe that the internet is hastening the need for a more expansive use of the .Pro extension. The internet offers otherwise industrial economies of the world opportunities to mature into service based economies at unprecented rates. India is a shining example. .Pro is well suited for today's aspiring economies. Finally, as to the question posed by this thread, so long as .Pro remains encumbered by some or all of the challenges referenced above and/or perceived accordingly, the challenge of flushing out appropriate pricing parameters will be just as great. :)

I apologize if my reply contributed to your confusion. Please visit http://encirca.com/html/pro-registration.shtml for further clarification.
thanks mjs,
Will look into it.

It is not your fault, I got this impression as I have been seeing people registering .pro w/o much care, and someone telling me the relax'ed rules, and using some registrar as some-kind of proxy, etc,etc

I do not have a concrete idea about it though

thanks again
