discuss Why Are There So Many Domain Conferences Happening Right Now? What’s Going On Behind the Scenes?

It feels like the entire domain industry is on the move lately. Every week there’s another big event somewhere in the world. From CloudFest USA 2025 to NamesCon Global 2025, ICANN 84 Dublin, Domain Days Dubai 2025, Verisign Registrar Days 2025, Web Summit Lisbon 2025, Domain Summit Asia 2025

Why now?
Maybe registries and registrars are trying to lock in partnerships before year-end?

What do you think is driving this timing?
Do you know of any other domain name related conferences?

There's been domain industry conferences/events for 2+ decades (give or take).

Events I've attended over the years:
Meetups – (2009 to current) – Meeting with individual domain investors 1 on 1 across the U.S.
T.R.A.F.F.I.C. West – Las Vegas Nevada (2014) – An Official Domain Investor Conference
NamesCon – Las Vegas, Nevada (2015/2017) – An Official Domain Investor Conference
DnHouston – Houston, Texas (2016) – An Official Domain Investor Meetup
Lean – Houston, Texas (2014) – An Official Start-Up Accelerator Conference.
NACCE – Houston, Texas (2015) – An Official Entrepreneurial Conference.

However, there has been changes of the guard (Ownership) for them over the years, as well as a bunch of new ones that surfaced in different parts of the world to spread the domain seeds, shake hands (in person) with other portfolio holders, stake-holders, VCs, and industry related companies, direct marketing and brand exposure in new markets or to new start-ups/investors, etc...

I've met a lot of great people over the years at events and meet-ups and miss some of the ones that phased out into retirement or pivoted to another industry, Like Frank Schilling (Original founder of Uniregistry), who recently Starred in 7 episodes of the reality TV show "Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise" just last year in 2024.

Besides talking domains and pitching, there's generally a lot of mingling, drinking, loud music and sometimes parties...

One of these days, I may have to go to another larger event. For now though, I stick to local turnouts in the south/south east Texas regions.

Which conferences/events do you think make the most sense for a fast-growing registrar to attend?
Thanks in advance for the guidance, Eric!

As a growth and brand advisor, the following would be my suggestion and opinion:

Technically, any and all conferences that are domain industry, Entrepreneur, start-up, business incubator, business networking, website development, or other biz/dev/email related are prime opportunities for a growing registrar to gain some brand recognition.

However, it's generally best (IMO) to start from the inside out, rather than the outside in. So my suggestion would be to start at your local level, where you have the advantage of regional trust (Being a local company). People generally like doing business more with a local than someone thousands of miles away.

Events coming up this month and next month (Nov/Dec 2025)
DateEvent NameFocus/DescriptionVenue

Dec 4, 2025Apex SME Masters Expos: Tec & Mar in Hong KongAn expo focusing on technology and marketing solutions for SMEs.The Peninsula Hong Kong

To find more local or regional events as you spread out, try these:
  • Eventbrite Hong Kong lists a wide variety of business, tech, and entrepreneur networking events.
  • StartmeupHK is an initiative by InvestHK to promote the local startup ecosystem and provides an event calendar.
  • 10times features international trade shows, conferences, and expos in Hong Kong.
  • Meetup hosts numerous smaller, community-focused tech and startup gatherings.
Note: You can use the above to get your feet wet if you're not used to attending the larger, global events. Once you hammer out all the kinks and get more comfortable attending events, then move into other countries and get into the global networks of events.

That's just my opinion anyways. It can be harder trying to grab an international audience before you have a solid local audience. The local audience becomes your back-bone for loyalty and consistency to help drive your registrar cross-boarders into the international landscape more efficiently.

Others may have different opinions for you, but the above is mine.

What ever you decide to do or how you structure your scaling plans, I wish you good fortune. ;)

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and genuinely helpful reply.

The event list, the concrete suggestions, and even the reasoning behind why local momentum matters… it’s all incredibly valuable, and more generous than I expected from a forum reply.

Thanks again, your insight means a lot, Eric! 🥹
