Anyone else noticed how many Turkish domains dropping these last few months?

Anyone got an idea why?

They have been dropping like crazy at TDNAM, many with high traffic. The bidding is high and fierce for these I have noticed.

This has been happening for about four or five months now.

And, they appear to be dropping from different owners.

Just .com with Turkish words.

Maybe they are abandoning .com for com.tr ?

In early 2007 I saw many Brazilian Portuguese domains in .com being dropped too. This lasted for about four months and then it more or less up and stopped.

It seems like the same deal here possibly.

Perhaps no potential anymore? War or fear of war (with PKK rebels, incursions into iraq, etc.) is a crazy thing and that maybe the reason...

there is no war.. and no war fear .. because our economy gets stronger and i am unhappy to see that everyday my $$$ or €€€ s get lower :)

here in Turkey we all want to make things cheaper. none of the companies paying XXX for a domain name. instead of a good name they are buying something unvaluable and crap. then u see that they are dropping..

for example Kablo.com (cable) sold for something mid X.XXX.. i couldnt handle them..

good names = good prices...

crap name = drop

Yeah, I had that problem too - not a lot of great keywords, or virtually nonexistent, just made up names.

I bought one that was a keyword for a park in Turkey and couple of others that have to do with music and one with parties, but none that were "expired traffic" domains, just generics. They make a little, but not enough to justify the type of prices being paid at TDNAM.

Turkey is populous with something like 70 million folks, in a country that is part of the European Union, but still...... can they really be worth $800 for an expired traffic domain with 1,500 uniques a month? I don't see how they will get their money back.

Are these newbies doing this, or pros that see something I don't?

If you don't see the value webstatis, then I am assuming these must be newbies flush with cash.

Turkey is not part of European Union, YET. However, they are part of the NATO.

And won't be- not as long as Greek Cyprus has the veto :)

I don't think there is a NATO veto option available for Greece or Cyprus. They use veto for the EU membership option which already lost most citizens' interest and demand after French president's speeches.

And for the names, I found TDNAM stats are somewhat gambling. There are some Turkish webmasters who developed some names with stuff like warez or picture galleries. Then one day they either decided to quit after finding a new work for themselves or they lost their passion for webmastering.

The problem is most names aren't generic and crap as websatis said. And the Turkish traffic don't pay out as well, you will mostly get 2 cents per click. Those past site traffic will die after a couple of months, so be careful when investing. Good luck.
