On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation will take effect. This means the WHOIS will “disappear”. In the new public record system, personal data will no longer be visible either to individuals or Sedo. This new hidden Whois data is very significant news and is sure to make it much harder for buyers to contact us and sharply reduce number of inquiries as so many in the past come via Whois info.

Someone mentioned since Registrant Organization still shows in new Whois that field can somehow be used for contact purposes such as adding phone number or email, etc. However I believe (but not positive) changing Registrant data may in-effect possibly modify registration date (especially in a UDRP case) and also may set a new 60-day lock. Both of those are big negatives if valid but not sure about it being the case.

I'm surprised this thread is not far more active than it is what with the significance of the Whois change since it makes it more difficult to get for sale inquiries. Without a solution to this situation a higher percentage of names may be marked as NON-auto renewal.

It appears to go much deeper than this. Currently I am unable to transfer out a domain from Domain.com as they give me an error claiming "No Contacts" and thus unable to send email -- to me. Lo and behold, all my domains with this registrar are now fully obfuscated. What a charade. Is there no way to opt out of this, really?

One of the worst policies to be implemented, IMO, as there is no recourse -- apparently.

The irony is that whois shouldn't be needed in the first place. If you have the auth code and the name is unlocked what more do you want to transfer a domain ?

I think I'm going to update all my registrant info and change the organisation to something like whois.mydomain.com and put up a little lander.

Serious people with an offer should get that hint.

Nothing a solid form with recaptcha wouldn't handle . They're probably scaping contact info anyway.

Well, for one thing I don't have the auth code and don't have access to it. Why it isn't readily available (viewable) within the control panel is questionable and at this point just unacceptable.

Well. GoDaddy will mask the whois of only EU residents. For people outside of EU, GoDaddy will continue to publish contact information like it always has.

I don't think so. 5 minutes back, I randomly checked the Whois of 2 domains registered at GoDaddy. One was registered by a US individual. I could see the complete details (Name, Org, Email id, Phone No, etc). Another one was registered by an EU resident. The registrant details were masked. I could only see the Registrant State and Country.

If the domain address is EU then they will surely miss WHOIs details. Other part they wont care if the details are showing up.

Afternic, LLC - On Behalf of Domain Owner - This is GoDaddy's holding account. Any domain name that gets a bid and is more than 30 days after the expiration date is transferred to this holding account.
