Whois Count Total - Question

I regularly run reports on GoDaddy to view the whois totals for each of my domains. The most I remember getting for one domain in a day was around 15-20.

Yesterday one of my domains had a total of 157 whois views... the obvious outlier in the group.

I was thinking part of this has to do with the domain's recent addition to my sedo account, because I know they usually run a few whois checks for verification but this is abnormal.

Any thoughts for the astronomical view count from one day? (today the domain has only 3 views). Thanks.

Certain domains normally get more searches than others, like 3 and 4 letter dot coms or popular words or phrases get consistent searches with occasional jumps. Who knows for the others. Could even be bots. People snooping around to see who owns what or someone may be interested in a similar domain.

I've sold a couple where the activity rose a little before I was contacted, but no way to tell who's looking beforehand unless you have the ip. Even then you might be spitting in the wind.

GD searches for mine have been trending down for at least a year and probably as low as they have ever been. Same thing for Sedo "for sale" page views. Very quiet.
