.info Who says .info is worthless ???

Good day everyone,

I have gotten a couple of PM's and "reputation" remarks stating "Why would I pay for .info when I can get them free." My answer is that if you would have gotten creditcards.com for free, does that make it any more or less valuable? It would still be worth 2.75 million to someone (as per previous sale).

Just because you get a name inexpensively does not make it worthless.. it is the actual name that gives it it's value no matter how much you paid for it.

I am by no means a "big player" This is sort of a hobby for me.

Below is my last years account of .info's. The format does not come out very well on message board, but you get the idea. All red items have been sold. All lines in black are still mine (and paid for).

All items in parenthesis are my collected amounts minus paypal fees. So a name that I sold for $500.00 will show $480.20.

So I say... Give me all the free info's you want, and I'll deal with the value :D

Thanks for the kind words,

I'm really not trying to show off... it's pretty meager compared to the amount of hours put in, but I was just trying to make a point (mainly to the guys that doubt the .info value).

There are many names that I feel that I sold too inexpesively, and others I think I got more than warranted.

I'll say this though... if it weren't for .info, i would still be in the whole overall for the domain biz.

Most of us can't afford to spend thousands on the premium .coms so i think the .info, and .us (my preferences other than .com) are a refreshing alternative.

Hope to see some more comments to this thread.

This is so very true. peopel may say they are worthless becasue of popularity, however, if someone wants/needs that name, they'll need to buy it from you. Even if you can register .infos for free, if someone has taken what you want, you can't register it. So, they will buy it from the owner.

Anyways, thanks for posting this. I am glad to see how pricy .info names are. I have 25 ready to register, but can't find a registerer that'll register 25 .info's free without the use of a credit card. Any help? thanks and thanks for posting this.

can't think of any other sales.. i never really put up my domain site ... strictlynames.com,

I did receive an offer through sedo for bargainbooks.info for 500 euro. I countered with 600 and the person cancelled negotiations.... live and learn (don't be too greedy) i would have been very happy with 500 euro.

I tried to fit the .info ext to what I could find, and I didnt even get them all yet. But for the first time, this 3 word dreamer has a couple decent names!

I agree here.. all this talk of .info's being worthless because they are free (for the first year only, remember) is ridiculous.. value should be based on the name, as well as the extension. INFO has plenty, and I mean, plenty, of potential.. some will even surpass .COM once they are established, IMO.

There were some good domains you sold there.. including a few I'd looked for (like depressionglass.info).... congrats!

Whoever suggests .info's aren't worth much has a self-deluded existence as a domainer....what actually happens mostly (especially on other forums) is that as soon as you say something positive about new tlds, some select members immediately jump on it and try their best to throw cold water on the whole thing...and what they mostly do is compare .info (& other new tlds) to .com....almost never to .org and .net....always .com is it that they bring forth for comparison.

Anyway, pretty nice list up there of all the sold .infos.

I myself sold a batch of 5 .infos earlier this year for a total of $18K...RioDeJaneiro.info was the highest of the batch at $9k (reported on DnJournal.com)...so that one sale pretty much took care of the renewals of my entire portfolio for next 2-3 years.

Don't sound so surprised. I've sold a number of them for $100-$400, and a few for more. I sold supportdesk.info (a two worder) for $600. I now think I sold it too cheap, but had some renewals due at the time. On a few really good .infos I've already turned down several $1000+ offers, including several for rafting.info.

i still have depressionglass.info one of my top two traffic names... (still not much, but gets about 30-40 per month. LinkinPark.info gets the most traffic.

And not to turn this into a sales thread, but my names are always open to offers.

Just re-reading the list of sold domains.. I can't believe actionfigures.info only brought $33! That one should do insanely well as it's one of the most popular collectible areas.

Great post StrictlyNames. Although our projections and opinions do often have merit, it is hard to beat the value of actual sales figures and real world experience.

Late last year, and into the beginning of 2004, .info was the poster child for the new tlds and emerging cctlds. They were being percieved as the hot ticket. After the great 3LLL/NNN buyout that took place during Mar-May, .info began taking a back seat to 3 character names. The emergence of .us, (as well as a couple of other cctlds), took .info even further off of many domainer's radar screens. When .infos became available to register for free, many assumed there to be a basic weakness w/ the tld. Au contraire.

IMO, the .info registry "giveaway" has seeded the market and the, (not too), long term effect will be that.info prices will benefit, not unlike the way 3LLL/character prices have benefitted from the buyout and subsequent 3LLL "name rush" that began earlier this year. Consider the large number of quality dictionary and high search term .info names that one could register in Aug, that are no longer available today. A year from now, when the drops begin, due to the lack of immediate success, I imagine there will be more than a few competing for the pickups of some of the better names.
