I am saddened about this whole immigration issue; I think people should be given the opportunity to taste the America dream. By providing them the tools and means to do so.

The United States Immigration Services generate/collect over $800 million in revenue from immigrants fir filing fees, etc each year!

What do you think?

In an ideal world, people should be given the opportunity to live wherever they like.
In this world, it just wouldn't work.

Your country would literally explode (or implode?) when hundreds of millions of people from poor/bad/under developed/wartorn/dictatorship/other countries all turn up at its doors.
It may be better now but when every service available (housing, police, medical, this list is neverending) is swamped by hundreds of millions of people, I guarantee it won't be the same and your country would literally be torn apart.

Not to say the current system is any good because it's clearly not, let's just say the alternative would be far worse...

Maybe if immigration between countries was controlled to the extent of "I give you one person, you give me one person". That would prevent a country from being inundated by immigrants but anything less just wouldn't work and your country would literally fall.

To be honest, if there was an easier way to get to another country - Canada in my case - I'd do it straight away. My life here really sucks!
Unfortunately immigration has to be controlled to some extent otherwise everyone would go to the good/better countries and the good/better countries wouldn't be good/better any more.

People do have the opportunity to pursue the "american dream" legally. Many, however, choose other (less than legal) methods of entering the country. Immigration is fine by me, American was built by immigration. Illegal immigration however, should be put to a stop. It is a hazard to our security as a nation.

There are a lot of issues closely related to increasing immigration and there is no perfect answer that will please everyone. The best we can hope for is a well thought out compromise that balances things as evenly as possible. Not that I ever expect that to happen =P

Also, $800 million is small money in terms of a government organization...

I have no problem them wanting to live the dream, but there are millions that are and have done it the correct way. When 12 million people do it the wrong way its like a kick in the butt to the people that did it legally.

I think they should send all the illegal ones back to their country they came from and if they wish to live in America, let them do it the legal way like the millions that have already.

These are my opinions, so please don't take offence. :)

Unfortunately it's impossible to send them all back, but they should all have to pay a fine for breaking the law & get in line to apply for citizenship. Why give them a free pass when millions have done it the legal way?

"Illegal" is the key word here..

Illegal immigration is the act of moving to or settling in another country or region, temporarily or permanently, in violation of the law or without documents permitting an immigrant to settle in that country. ...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigrant

If that doesn't give sufficient reason as to why they shouldn't be here, I don't know what does.

Just recently here in Carthage, Missouri, INS raided a local construction site and arrested FIFTY-SIX (56) illegal immigrants working on the site.. and I'll bet they were quickly replaced by others within days after those arrests.

This is not a small problem... America may have been built by immigrants but I would hope there is a movement toward doing it legally.

in my personal opinion, these immigration laws exist to take advantage of illegals in this country. by creating and enforcing these laws, many employers can exploit illegals. They may be here illegally, but they pay for it by remaining silent in harsh work conditions and are willing put up with the *icky* jobs that no average american will do. Like it or not, america is run by illegals that - for the most part - want nothing more than to make a decent living for their families.

If our government really wanted to solve this problem, they should #1 make the immigration process easier and quicker. #2 make and enforce laws that punishes employers that exploit illegals. #3 create a 'grace' period that allows existing illegals to apply for citizenship w/out consequence.

Nice post Isis.

The same thing is happening in this country. The Government has never tried to control or even look at the situation.
As I see it, there's people thinking they can come here from non-European countries (Euro countries can come here legally under the terms of the EU) to find a better life for them and their families. Unfortunately it doesn't work out like that.

They come here illegally, they work illegally and to all extents they don't exist.
The Government fails to recognise that they are here, let alone give them any rights.

Then the "better life" they come here for turns into them being exploited by various criminals. Often with them being forced to work as sex slaves or cockle picking.
A good example was the 21 cocklers who died in Morecambe Bay two years ago. The rules were never changed, these people died for no reason. They were only trying to make a better life here, albeit illegally.

The "gang master" may have been punished with prison time but there's nothing in place to stop this kind of thing happening again. Not forgetting the countless times they've uncovered sex slave smuggling rings and failed to act on it.

The rules are unneccessarily complicated and serve only to drive illegals underground.

I would have agreed with your position in the 1970's,But because i grew up through periods of large immagration,I have to disagree,The US is so over populated now,Alot of americans that need help, financially,Medical and so forth don't get it,While immagrants get a lot of government aid,The US is disversified enough as it is now.Iam not tyring to sound cold here at all,Facts are facts,And i have lived through the large population of immagrants that have come to the US.

I included links for you to find that out! :)

Here ya go!
What is a cockle?

A cockle is an edible shellfish. Cockling is the gathering of cockles from sand flats and mud flats in shallow water where they live.

Who cockles and why?

Local people and fishermen have traditionally cockled, but in modern times a commercial industry has grown up where they are gathered on a much larger scale.
