Hi, I'm a newbie to domaining.

I started out by buying dictionary words and so far it has been a failure. I understood not all dictionary words have value.

I did manage to sell 3 domains related to Loans, Forex, and Tax services.

So what I learnt is Finance, Product related domains or services related domains sell! But what TLD's sell better? Of course It's the .com, I know! but what abt the .net and .org?

Suppose I hand-register them, say something like CarpentryServices.org or a .net what could be the value if i try to sell it? Or rather I should ask Would ppl be interested in buying it? :-/

I'd stick to .com if you're looking for quick sales. I've only sold 1 .org, and 3 .nets.

All my other sales have been .com, which I feel is the easiest to sell.

Try to find trend and news related names. These names aren't yet registered because, obviously, they haven't happened yet.

Watch and pay close attention to the news and trends. Learn to tell which trends will take off fairly soon or even into the future. This is really what the bigger domainers are doing.

Try to anticipate events by having content drawn up already. Then when the time comes you can immediately go live with the site -some such sites are already live and just waiting for the event or news to take place. They are already in Google's index and when (if) the event takes place Google will treat it well.

Look at reported sales.

Look at reported sales.

I've observed that certain names which aren't so "Great" also sell for big prices! (Especially at sedo!) But I tried doing something similar and ended up with no sales. :td: So still confused.

for example. class3.com sold for $10,000!!

I thought numbers in a domain name spoils it and makes it worthless! I've a domain name Gas9.com. And ppl in this forum said its worthless. But it's similar to class3. :D or atleast, Gas is a better keyword than class. or that's what I think! :|

True, there are many flukes. Many sales are one of a kind :)
But if you analyze sales reports you should notice some trends over time. The most obvious is that popular extensions sell better than obscure ones. The odds of selling also increase if the domain has an obvious commercial purpose.

The lazy answer is to see what types of domains people are asking for regularly, in the WANTED threads, on the main domain and website forums.

Hey guys, How much do you think hand registered domains sell for? .com's which are targeting commercial markets, like clothing, shoes, furnitures etc. :)

$$$ if you are lucky and choose wisely.
I would forget about regfee domains if you are looking to resell for a healthy profit.

I'm sorry, I didn't understand this line? :-/

It means (in general) that a domain that is still available today is unlikely to sell for good money. If a domain is still available it usually means nobody wants it (unless it's a recent drop)...

Anything that there is a big market for. Be it product, services. Dictionary names won't sell. One thing you want to do before you register a .net or .org, is make sure that the .com of the same name isn't already for sell because if it is and he's selling for cheaper, you're sol.

Is the domain and casino related domains are marketable? I am a newbie also.

any domain can be marketable, certain things like extension, traffic, kewyords increase your chances of selling. .com's with traffic probably being the easiest to sell and the most in demand.

ok, what about .ru? Found few dictionary "regfee domains" and believe they have commercial value.

if they are dictionary names and avail they probably don't have traffic. if you are investing in dictionary names it's always good to have revenue names to help offset the registration costs.

Thanks, KwelX,
I was thinking to sell those to applicable companies selling those goods.
and another question: how do I check traffic?

You can check traffic by using some website below:
1 Compete.com
2 Alexa.com
3 Quantcast.com
or just type "check traffic of domain" or "check traffic of website" on Google, you will see some tools
