Hi folks, here's my question:

Let's say I'm an expert in apples and oranges, and I want to establish an online identity for myself. Applesandoranges .com/.net/.org are taken. Here's what's available:

applesandoranges.info (and all other tlds except com/net/org)
apples-and-oranges.com (and all other tlds including net/org)
applesoranges.net

So I can take any of these for nothing, or I can spend hundreds of dollars trying to purchase applesandoranges .com/.net/.org. What do you folks recommend? Of the freely-available options, which are the best? I'm not just thinking in terms of ranking for keywords, although that is important. I'm also thinking in terms of aesthetics and appearing credible. It seems to me that anything other than applesandoranges.com puts me at somewhat of a disadvantage. What do you think? :)

Out of the 3 freely available name you have mentioned applesandoranges.info sounds better. apples-and-oranges.com disadvantages are two hyphens and 'and' in between. I think apples-oranges.com will be a good option.

applesoranges.net i like but the .info is closest to what u want most probably, and the 2 hyphens in the .com make it completely unappealing to me

apples-oranges.com is already registered

try searching for synonyms of the keywords that you want...

I'm not sure if I am a big fan of any of them. They all are pretty long and will be subject to quite a few typos unless people come in from search engines, other links, and/or bookmarks. Out of all of them, I would stay with your .com, but someone said that was already taken.

What are you looking to do with the domain?

I know it is already registered. Well he has given an example of Apples and Oranges to explain his question in a better way and I simply gave him a suggestion of registering a .com name with a single hyphen.

I would consider applesoranges.net.

The double hyphen is unappealing and unless 'apples & oranges' is a popular keyword, you will be at a disadvantage registering an obscure .info

Did you contact the owners of the taken names and see how much they want? You never know, their asking proce may be within your budget.

Good luck.

How about just making it ORAPPLES.COM or ORANGEAPPLES.COM :) :hehe:

I would go with the .net. I think it is more popular and has more value than .info.
