Are TLD extentions worth more than country code extentions?

Country code extensions are TLD's. Here is an explanation:

TLD = gTLD + ccTLD

gTLD = com, org, net, etc
ccTLD = .us, .es, other country codes

In general, gTLD's are worth a lot more than the country code equivalents, HOWEVER, in some countries ccTLD's are huge - co.uk, .de in Germany, .ca in Canada, and more. COM always seems to be master, but don't underestimate the power of ccTLDs in some countries.

It depends ;)

.biz would be worth less than .us, but .com would be worth more than .us etc.

Can you be more specific about which TLDs etc? :)

.travel is pretty much dead, whereas .DE dominates in the German market. If you are deciding between those 2 for something do not even consider .travel.

.Travel sucks.

But it depends if you wanna target a local niche or a global niche..

I wouldn't get either personally.

even if it sucks, wouldn't it still be better for search engines than .de?

what would be better...baseball.travel or baseball.de?
or even shit.travel vs. shit.de?

Neither of those would be good registers. Travel TLD only makes sense if you have a nice GEO or travel-type term and .DE only makes sense if it is Germany-specific or a domain hack.

ok,
what about sex.travel vs. sex.de?

.DE would make a lot of sense for "sex", but .travel does not make any sense - of course, it would probably at least sell because of the keyword. Another thing to note is that .Travel is locked down so you need to be involved in the travel industry to get a name - of course, it isn't TOO difficult to get accredited.

could sex.travel be associated with adult themed swinger vacations? you could sell these packages or park it to where companies that already sell those type of vacation packages are advertising on your page...right?

Of course you could do that, but .travel really hasn't taken off...even for travel-related domains. I am not an expert on .Travel, but I was researching the extension a lot last week when I was considering buying a great looking travel-related keyword...I decided against that.

SexTravel.com would be a LOT better than Sex.travel in my opinion...other opinions may differ.

Yes dude. You can do anything with any domain you like basically. If its legal you may get shut down eventually and if its not possible yet well.. research..

Sex.Travel would bring to my mind some sort of travel agency that knows the places with the most sluts or some mile high club spoof - probably the second one.

I should also note that .Travels are not cheap and the registry checks up on the site within a year to make sure it follows their regulations.
