I‘ve found a nice domain name, but most TLDs are registered.
From the listed ccTLDs which one do you think is the best choice?
Which has future potential?

GoDaddyGoDaddy
I voted none as well in the context of resell value :]

Neroux, may I ask when was this that the .St root server went down?
I did not say that the root servers went down, I said my domain was dropped from the root servers.

TheBaldOne said:
Was the domain register Nic.St?
Yes, I registered it at nic.st.

TheBaldOne said:
What was the domain name?
localhost.st

TheBaldOne said:
I am puzzled as I find Nic.St one of the most professional ccTLD registeries in the business (in fact the most reliable, helpful, and friendly, and perhaps more so than for many gTLD registries).
Well good for you, my experience is rather like a one-man show who runs when problems appear.

TheBaldOne said:
By the way, yes I am biased, I hold perhaps the 3rd/4th largest stock of .St's, but if there is a problem for any domainer I feel I have a duty to bring it up with them. Please post the information here and we can take it from there.

P.S. Neroux, I have now PM'ed you asking for the information about the domain, this is so that you get my offer of help even if you do not return to this thread, although after thinking about it, it seems very strange that you do not mention the domain in question or dates, although you post the accusation twice in very, very quick succession! I look forward to your prompt full response so as this matter can be dealt with publicly.
I have replied now to your private message. Thanks for your offer to help, but I dont know what this could actually be. Achieving to get me a (partial) refund?

I do not see why I should had have given initially any information you refer to, as this thread is not about this issue but about general top-level domain suggestions freeflow asked for. As the .st registry was mentioned as well I thought I should better mention my experience with them to warn any fellow members here.

Thanks everyone for your replies and votes, they helped me make my decision.
I’m not going to register the domain under one of these exts. Instead I chose
a similar domain with the .in ext. It seems that it might have more potential in
the future compared to the ones I listed. What do you think?

I would choose the cheapest from this :)

.im Isle of Man
.st Sao Tome
.gd Grenada
.lv Latvia
.vc Saint Vincent

.gb.com United Kingdom 3rd level ?

erm I think you will find that is a two letter .com domain name and people are selling subdomains.

The real UK extention is .uk - further information at www.nominet.org.uk , and example prices (reported only, generally much higher) at www.domainprices.co.uk .

As for future potential... .uk and .de are the strongest two after .com IMHO :)

Neroux,

Thank you for your PM answer, from that and the above you obviously do not wish/require any help!

I can though say that through a simple look-up of the 'WhoIs' the domain you give is registered until 07/07/2007 to an individual in the former Yugoslavia. Your problem, if one did exist, obviously dates from before 23/06/06, I will check with Roman when he returns to work following this Christmas holiday break, I am sure he will be only too willing to look into this and find the previous owner/s of this domain, and of course your details. From there I am sure Roman will institute an investigation as to the supposed problem so as to make sure it could never happen again, assuming it did in the first place.

One other thing does puzzle me though, you say you emailed Nic.St, this implies a single email, if such a thing happened to me I would be emailing repeatedly!

Anyway I will report back here on this thread what Roman and the rest of the staff have to say for people to judge for themselves.

I have to say I find it rather strange that you are repeatedly questioning my complaint and hereby implying that I am telling the untruth and am actively lying. I consider this rather as offensive and I am asking you hereby to refrain from making such obvious implications.

As I already said I had this domain, so it should have been already clear to you that I am not owning this domain any longer. Because of this you are of course right that I do not need any help. The only justified and applicable "help" would be a (partial) refund, but I'd be really surprised if such one would be issued, so lets not talk about this any more.

I dont know how you can assume out of my posting how many times I tried to contact them (even tough "every attempt" should imply multiple times) but even if I had contacted them/him just once, I would assume any professionally operated company would not wait for the 50th email to respond about such a critical issue, but maybe nic.st acts that way - and yes of course there is always the possibility that all these emails got lost, even tough my emails usually arrive for everbody else, but who knows, who knows.

I would chose .us.com but that is what I would choose you might want something different.

Depends on the name you're registering actually.

.gd could actually means good. :D

Waste of money, unless you live in the US and can get the .us.com cheaply.

But seriously, .lv and such for a site not orientated to these countries?! Better choose another domain then that's available with .com, .net, .info, ... Maybe just add something like -online to your desired domain, probably then it will be available with an extention that will get you somewhere.

I'd choose GD because I already own a GD domain :D

Yes, but unless you have a great keyword such as sex.gd, casino.gd, poker.gd, music.gd, ... the domain will not get you a lot of money, neither will it get you a lot of hits.

Id say .st but only with the right type of name. Otherwise id say none.

There is no written law on that subject. I have 3 oddball tlds ending
in .cc .gs & .sc
The .cc is SSU.cc, the .sc is Video.sc and the .gs is YOU.gs and I've
had offers for all 3 that were pretty good..
Basically it depends on the Domain name.
I'd love to get something like FIR.ST or GHO.ST

I voted for .vc only becuase its new and seeing as how it stands for "Venture Capital" among other things, is the reason i voted for it.

Most of the old timers in the UC think of it as Viet Cong!
