I‘ve found a nice domain name, but most TLDs are registered.
From the listed ccTLDs which one do you think is the best choice?
Which has future potential?

It depends on which are available.. us and de seem to be the best.

us and de are also already registered.

I voted for .vc only becuase its new and seeing as how it stands for "Venture Capital" among other things, is the reason i voted for it.

It's also one of my favorites on the list. Let's see how the poll goes.
Thanks domainer50 for your vote.

I'd go for .im.

On a side note, I would never ever register an .st domain again. I once registered one and one day it suddenly stopped working. After some investigations I noticed it was apparently dropped from the root name servers and every attempt to contact them resulted in no response. The interesting thing, when the renewal date came they suddenly knew how to contact me.

I would also go for .im
although I may be biased because I own a few keyword .im names that do well!

I'd probably go with .im as my first choice, and .st as my second.

I'll go with .gd, or the .vc ('cause it's Very Cool :p )

I'd go .St first as a site then possibly .us.com if it makes sense with the domain name.

I voted none :santa:

Your list doesnt include .DE

I reckon this will be the big one. It has huge potential. Also if you didnt know, .de has replaced .net as the most sold domain extension which stands RANK NO - 2 after .com
From the listed ccTLDs which one do you think is the best choice?

Each CCTLD has its own advantages and disadvantages.

.DE is appropriate for germany, since .de is their country code, and most of the time people from germany would like to visit a .de domain than a traditional .com/.net/.org domains.

Choosing a CCTLD depends on the keyword popularity in the particular country.

immobilien is the german word for 'Real Estate' and it is no way connected with Japan or any other Asian countries. It will be of no use if we register immobilien.jp or immobilien.cn.

Unless you have a globally recognized generic name like 'chat', 'sex', 'casino', 'poker' it is worthless to play with the CCTLDs.

So I have voted None.

I don't think it matters, so I'd go with the cheapest out of the proper extensions, i.e. not the third level subdomain ones.

.vc and .vg here ;)

I voted for .st, although .im would be my second choice on that list. If you could pay for the .com, go for it.

Just because I noticed some people recommended .st, I'd like to repeat my warning.

Assuming that your intentions were to resell, I voted none.

Unless you are going to develop a web site aimed at one of those countries, I think you're better off looking at your next set of options, whatever they might be.

Neroux, may I ask when was this that the .St root server went down?

Was the domain register Nic.St?

What was the domain name?

I am puzzled as I find Nic.St one of the most professional ccTLD registeries in the business (in fact the most reliable, helpful, and friendly, and perhaps more so than for many gTLD registries).

By the way, yes I am biased, I hold perhaps the 3rd/4th largest stock of .St's, but if there is a problem for any domainer I feel I have a duty to bring it up with them. Please post the information here and we can take it from there.

P.S. Neroux, I have now PM'ed you asking for the information about the domain, this is so that you get my offer of help even if you do not return to this thread, although after thinking about it, it seems very strange that you do not mention the domain in question or dates, although you post the accusation twice in very, very quick succession! I look forward to your prompt full response so as this matter can be dealt with publicly.
