I've been collecting a few .US domains and have had opportunities to own the same name in both .US and .TV. If you could have a single name in one of these extensions, which one would you pick in terms of investment value?

Domain.TV
Domain.US
Domain.ME

I know it depends a lot on the name itself, but let's say it's just a common generic that would work equally well on either extension for the sake of argument.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

It would be between .tv and .us. I think using a .us makes it a bit more versatile.

IMO, .us. But .us has some restrictions unlike .me/.tv and it has relevance only if based in the US.
But unlike .me/.tv it's not been pimped as a vanity TLD so I think the base for growth is more solid.

i didn't vote because i feel each has its own unique qualities , good poll question and i have names in all these extensions because i feel they are all good when married up with the correct words

i believe bright future for all these extensions

The biggest country's extension .us is local (probably because of restrictions) and one of the smallest countries's extensions .tv is one of the most global :)

I believe that most of domainers here, at NP, are from USA, and for USA .us is ok, I can understand it.

Let's think globally, I don't think that French, German, Spanish companies would build their business on .us and .me extensions, because in .us they just can't and .me means really nothing. But they will use .tv because it's TV and almost every person in the world who is even 8 years old know what does it mean.

Domainers who are in .tv sections should be interested in that extension and I believe all of them must "defend" their extension (it's pure logic). People who are in .tv section answered on that question (what is better) when they came here - so this is wrong place for poll - there is ccTLD Discussion thread. IMO

Thanks, Nick

hm it depends on the word.

If it suits .TV i would consider .tv.

But i think .us will be worth good money.

.Me? I dont know how the market is in the US but in europe nobodys uses .me and i dont think it will be big here.

Some Europe statistics.
I checked regional Google's and here we have some results, how many sites there are in different languages.
Here are some interesting stats:

Google.fr
.tv - 86 200 000
.us - 4 360 000
.me - 1 400 000

Google.co.uk
.tv - 61 400 000
.us - 10 300
.me - 640 000

Google.de
.tv - 32 600 000 -
.us - 5 580 000
.me - 2 200 00

Google.es
.tv - 29 500 000
.us - 11 300 000
.me - 522 000

Thanks, Nick

P.S. my statement in previous post that European companies can't register .us names is wrong as I can see. Don't understand how they can register them without being US citizen. But it's other question.

.us would win every time for me.

Treated me well the last few years so no need for change.
It's a waiting game, but an enjoyable 1 at that.

.tv and .me aren't as versatile when used mostly as vanity extensions. They stand for countries that nobody has ever heard of, so it makes sense they had to play that aspect to get some users. As top ccTLDs continue to rise in popularity, it only makes sense that .us receives a little bit more acknowledgment. It's getting pretty interesting as global companies are utilizing all the ccTLDs to serve each locale. They all have a future... I am just a little bit more partial to .us.
Strangely, I've never seen a .tv commercialized on tv for several years whereas I have seen .us more frequently recently. Ridiculous gimmicks created to sell something usually behave as fads. .ws? I think I might have purchased one of those years ago! I love ccTLDs, just not of unknown or third-world countries.
.us
.tv
.me

I'm debating between .TV and .US since they been both good to me in terms of selling. But my vote goes to .US

.US is the clear winner for me. That extension has sooo much upside. Every time a non-American buys a dot com, .US is that much closer to takeoff.
Buy now.

In my opinion .US is the most undervalued extension. I think one of the reasons is because a person must reside in the US (or have a corporation based in there), unlike many other cctlds. Because of this, large scale speculation within the domaining community has been limited, and therefore there has been less of a tailwind behind the extension...thus far. Believe me when I say the word is getting out fast. Huge investment opportunities right now but I doubt that will last much longer...

Case in point: I was in a hair salon recently & mentioned to the hair stylist that I work with websites & domains. She told me that she was interested in acquiring a name for her new business. I said that since it was a 4 letter .com it could cost her a pretty penny. Her reply? "Actually I thought the .US would be cool!"

I think that .us is the most valuable ccTLD in that list. The .tv is not really a good ccTLD in that it is repurposed and it relies on a handful of well known .tv domains for its popularity. The .me ccTLD is also, to a great extent, a repurposed ccTLD and a lot of its registrations are highly speculative junk registrations that will be dropped over the next few years. The .us ccTLD has a market and it will grow as the localisation element of marketing becomes more important over the next few years as companies and businesses seek to self-identify with their local market rather than with the generic .com TLD.

Regards...jmcc

In the long run .US is the most valuable if it becomes what .co.uk and .de are for their countries.

I would choose:
.TV for a video based content site
.ME for a personal/blog/social site
.US for anything thats based in the USA (company/product/service/etc..)

All of you .us fans may be in for a hayday. It is a strong rumour that yahoo will stop allowing ads on .us domains so there could be thousands of drops in the near future from the parking fraternity.
So my opinion would be .tv followed by .me with .us trailing in last.

Interesting. For what reason would a search engine giant give to do that? Could you please provide links for this information. Thanks

<crosses fingers & hopes people buy into this rumour and drop premium .us names>

Even if this did happen parking is the worst way to make money with solid (non-typo) domain names. Stick to developed sites with affiliate advertising and your .us portfolios will be just fine. .US surely has more generic *investment* potential & value than .tv or.me in the long run, regardless of what 1 company (no matter how large) chooses to do with their ad feeds - believe.me.
