Hey guys,

like I said I'm totally new to domaining and I apreciate the help here from your members.

I was wondering what method(s) have you used to sell domains and that have made you the most profit (I guess if we can take out how good the domain was ;)).

1) SEDO, forums, etc.

2) Seeking out a buyer. Let's say your domain is guitarshop.com. You find someone who is thinking of setting one up and then ask him what he wants for it.

3) Sit on your bum and wait - for the guy opening a guitar shop to beg, cry, and kiss the ground to take guitarshop.com away from you.

Or others (portfolio etc.)

P.S. I don't own guitarshop.com (but wish I do).

If your name is good enough or you are lucky the best prices will be for those who wait. However, the wait could be 10+ years and so approaching endusers is often better for getting a good sale soon!

My best customer was an enduser who would have found me from type-in traffic.

From what I've seen, end users approaching you would be the best case scenarion (as they're clearly interested in what you have to offer, giving you better leverage in subsequent price negotiations). Barred that, seeking out an end user yourself is still a good option, since end users normally pay a lot more for a name than resellers.

Skinny !

attach a poll with the same option will be more exciting that way !

@ edomainz - I've tried editing the thread but the poll option isn't there. (any one know how to get around that. Silly me. Should have thought about that).

To everyone, some really good advice here. Keep it coming.

Agreed. Keep your best names, or most generic names, off to the side and play the waiting game. If you know an end user wants it, you can suck out as much money as that person is willing to pay. :)

Otherwise, try to find a buyer.

Great sale, although you could have found other markets for it:

pokerstar sexchange.com

I guess the bottom line is if you have a good domain (generic names) then you can sit back and let money pile up but if you have a brandable name or unventional name then you need to approach buyers !

The owner of camp.com didnt even know about monetizing, when his domain name even with ext had good ovt ( http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/domainsales/2006/domainsales10_10_06.htm )!!!

Sold for $150,000 !!!

But all of us are not that lucky !

Like the very first domain I sold was a brandable name, it was appraised at $0 to reg fee here.... but sold for $200 !!

So sitting on you bum may make some of us a lot of many... not all of us can afford it !!!
