Well actually it's a friend, he had business hosting with 1&1 for a few years and had around 8 domains on it, recently he decided he was changing hosting so he never renewed his acrd details on the 7th, 1&1 have now locked his account and say unless he updates his credit card details then his account will remain locked, the domain he wants to use is paid until jan 2009 and he wants me to transfer it away but i'm unable to do so as 1&1 insist on having his cc details.

Can anything be done? to get the domain transfered.

Rule one. never use 1&1 worst company ever.

recommend you give cc

Yeah i would probably update the credit card info and pay whatever free there is. That is if they are that valuable to him. And then cancel or whatever once the domains are transferred.

I've learned years ago from dealing with Yahoo!'s hosting that you should always used a third party domain registrar. That way you can't get screwed in the end when you're moving to a new host.

Good luck.

Not a very good idea with 1&1. If you do not pay or claim a charge back on a payment they will get debt collectors involved (I know people they have done this with). They will also threaten with court action.
