Hi

I was wondering where I can register .fr domains?

I know about eurodns, but I am wary because their prices are two times more expensive than godaddy for .eu extensions and others. I don't want to get ripped off on my .fr...

Thanks

They are some big French domain registrar.
I used them few years ago.
No issue, except there was no free push between users.

ovh.com is another large French registrar. For .fr local presence requirements apply...

20€ a .fr at ovh :(

I think local presence is not anymore required, they changed this rule few months ago.

I believe there was talk of this, but I am not sure that it actually happened. I know registration was opened to French individuals, but other than that, its questionable.

The terms were updated on 15 January 2007, and, if I'm interpreting Article 5 correctly, it appears that an individual outside of France can register a domain provided the administrative contact (e.g. the registrar) is based in France. On the other hand, this seems to be belied by the language of Article 10. Any insights?

Here's the link to the pdf version of the .fr Charter. See Article 5 and 10 specifically.

AFNIC .FR Charter
I interpret it differently, due to the following quote.
http://www.afnic.fr/data/chartes/charter-fr-2007-01-15.pdf:Article 5;Paragraph 1 said:
When submitting a registration application, the holder of a domain name must designate “an administrative contact” and maintain this contact throughout the entire usage period of the domain name. This contact can be changed via the registrar.
The fact that an administrative contact can be changed tells me that a local presence (not being the registrar) is required. But I can certainly understand your view on it as well, the wording is confusing, possibly because of language barriers.

Same as above.

Thanks for the input. I edited my thread to account for the language of Article 10 which seems to align with your interpretation. In any case, the terms are confusing at best. Personally, I would follow the language of Article 10 to avoid incident and loss.

Correct, if anyone stated based on Article 10 that they think they should have a right to own a domain name, then AFNIC might consider changing the wording.
