Where can I learn about the expired traffic/domain business

i want to get into speculating as such but i have absolutely no clue on the topic. can anyone point me to articles/tutorials or whatever?

also i have some domains i'm interested which will be expiring soon. Is there anyway i can grab it the day that it expires? Last time i tried to register a domain which expired via namecheap.. it didnt work for some reason. I heard theres like a 70 day period before you can register it again?
