Kudos to the photographer who got the picture. (I'm assuming it wasn't you since you live in Brazil) ;)

Wow, thats a pretty dramatic picture! You can feel the the power of nature so close, that you want to run as fast as you can. Corageous photographer!

I've seen alot of shots from storm-chasers (yes, some do this for a living 8-X ), but that one beats most (if not all) I've seen. This is a shot that, as Gil pointed out, makes you feel like you're right there, and is so detailed. Seeing the size of it on-top of the surroundings makes you just imagine the raw power and gives you repect (and fear) fo the wrath of nature.

Yes, Gill, this was one brave photographer. However.......

There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity :notme: OK, the photographer here was brave for sure, and not totally stupid.....But, you have to admit, that close to this monster, that atleast a bit of stupidy was involved too :o

Your'e probably right, either the photographer left it till the last minute to take the pic and then speed off in a car, or he was caught by surprise by the monster but still had the guts to stop for a few seconds. From what I hear tornados are pretty noisy, so the second possibility is highly unlikely but not impossible. There could also be another story behind the picture.

Whatever way you look at it, there's no doubt that it's a fantastic example of the raw power of nature and the respect we should have for it. Thanks for sharing Fabrรญcio.

Set the tripod and camera up...leave running like the RoadRunner.....come back after the fact and hope your $xxx camara set-up is still bolted to the tree and that it got a good shot :hehe:

Yes, never thought of that idea. Would have to be a pretty robust tree to survive that monster. beep, beep

Great photo...which tornado was this one? I saw one way off in the distance in St. Louis once, they're pretty amazing to see...but wouldn't want to see one up close though. :snaphappy:

It's been a very active spring here in Iowa from tornadoes to flooding. Last month Parkersburg about 2 hours from me had an EF5 tornado level half of the town. Damaging over 400 homes and destroyed over 200 and killed 8 people, with 70+ injured.

Photos: http://www.kcci.com/news/16391215/detail.html (Click "Pictures")

Now the majority of Iowa has been hit with major record flooding. In Cedar Rapids which was hit hardest there were 25,000 people evacuated and 5,000 in Iowa City. Hundreds of homes and businesses have been flooded. 83 of the 99 counties here in Iowa are under state or federal disaster relief. The flood stage in Cedar Rapids is 12 feet, the river crested at 33 feet (21 feet over flood stage :o)

Photos of Cedar Rapids: http://www.gazetteonline.com/apps/p...0080612&Kategori=NEWS&Lopenr=593584102&Ref=PH

Luckily we haven't had any flooding in my city due to the great flood walls, but did have some pretty good flooding out in parts of the country areas. Seems like everyone is dealing with severe weather as this is the worst season since 1998 for tornadoes with 1,577 reported in the U.S. so far.

That picture is not using a zoom lens, in fact its a wide angle lens , possibly a 28mm. You can tell its a wide angle lens in that the electricity pole on the left is tilted to the right and the barn on the right is tilting left and anything in the middle (like the flag pole) is straight.

The photograher or the camera is right there and very close to taking a free ride on a super high speed merry-go-round. D-:

Looks like everything in that pic was choreographed very well with nature as the artists..

I salute the brave Photographer who shot this pic.. tho, right it's a bit stupid of him to do it but still he did:D

amazing. the photographer must have had a gut equivalent to that of the tornado.

I've seen that pic and a couple different explanations of how and who took it.. funny there's no debris blowing at the base of the funnel in that pic.. it almost looks like a composite using a thunderhead superimposed on the ground. I saw that pic accompanying a news article first (Drudge) then later it made the rounds on Reddit as a "reason you should always carry a digital camera". I have my doubts it's an authentic, unaltered shot, but it could be. We had a very similar thunderhead here a few weeks ago and I thumped myself for not having my camera.

the explnation was in the site was it was a very quick one; it was in the ground just for a few seconds
it is also said in the site almost nothing was lost in regards to houses, cars and other stuff as i said in the begining nobody was hurt :)
