When does the domain that is not extended go to the aftermarket and when not? What does it depend on? From the registrar?

For example, how does it look like in namecheap? Is the unrenewed domain immediately put up for auction with them?

And how about other operators? Which operators simply release the domain right away?

I know that NameCheap take your domain in about day 28-30 after expiry. I think NameCheap use GoDaddy to sell their expired domains. Which would be an auction from around 28-38 (approx) after expiry. And will be awarded about day 42/43 after expiry. If you need more precise info than this, you need to Google GoDaddy Aftermarket Domain Auctions, and look at NameCheap's ToS.
