So i've got most of my domains registed at The Planet (which is nice because .com regs are 6.99 but sucks because you can't push) and GoDaddy (who are by many accounts sleazebags and I don't trust them).
I'm interested in Enom and Moniker because they seem reputable among domainers, but even more importantly they have developer API's.
Now i'm not stuck on the sub $7 pricing, i'm willing to pay a bit more if the interface and tools make it worth the price difference, but Moniker's $10.49 is just unrealistic. Why do so many domainers use them? Am I missing something, is there a way to get better pricing? I must be missing something, I mean that could easily be several thousand dollars per year more.
Enom wants me to buy $7k worth of eNom points (whatever those are) just to get pricing thats competitive with GoDaddy (7.49 compared to GD's 6.85). I assume eNom points are just credits that can be used to reg domains, but i'm not ready to prepay for $7k worth of services (that is non-transferable and non-refundable btw) just to try their service. I may hate their interface or maybe their customer service sucks, then what? Of course I can always pay for the $195 account for the privilege of paying $10.45 per reg. How on earth can a pricing plan like this work, where customers have to pay them for the privilege of doing business with them? Again, i've gotta be missing something.
So maybe someone can clarify, or maybe their services are just so good they get away with this. I really don't know.
Any other registrars offer an API? I guess that's not a requirement as long as their registration forms don't have a captcha but i'm looking for a reputable company with a good bulk domain management interface and not more than $9/year .com regs. I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount for a premium account if necessary, but not 7 grand. I think GoDaddy's discount club is $90 for comparison.
