What's the catch

hi! folks juan again the new kid on the block.
ive been reading many books about domaining and flipping in a day, but i dont understand the catch of domaing yet.
the thing is if i can get a domain name for 10 bucks thanks to a godaddy coupon and it has a traffic of over 3000 (a good traffic according to what i have been reading in the bibliography i could find), and then i get an appraisal of the domain name in compete or another appraisal page for 500 bucks, i dont really understand the catch.
At the same moment of getting a domain name for 10 in godaddy, the apprasail pages tell me it has good traffic and the value is 500. is it possible?
how does it work then?

The catch is that there is no catch, there are plenty
First of all, be careful about what you read and hear, this industry is much more difficult than it sounds. Simply put, you are not going to be able to register a domain for $10, with lots of traffic, and sell it fast for big bucks. And don't trust automated appraisals.

The ebooks cannot teach you everything, I actually think they may do more harm than good by providing you with bad knowledge :imho:

My advice would be to hang around here, read as much as you can, soak up the knowledge, and don't buy anything until the confusion has cleared up.
Again, if it was that easy - everybody would be doing it.

The catch is the appraisal is what it is suppose to do - to praise the inflated value of domain. If you can register a new domain for $10, and so does anyone else in the world, why anyone else would pay any more for your name, that is unless:
a) you are really lucky to register incredibly good domain that has just dropped an no one else noticed
b) you had some private info that allowed you to register new term that no one cares about right now, but you know it will become really popular next year
