Hey,

Anyone live in California? I am possibly going there for BlizzCon 2007 (Irvine to be specific) and wondering what is fun in California (Somewhere around Irving :) or somewhere where I can figure out how to find it)

Well disneyland is a hop skip and jump away from you...thats always kind of fun.

and Huntington Beach is nice (boardwalk & small beach town)..very close to Irvine.
Laguna Beach is a larger and better IMO beach town..a little bit south of Irvine but well worth it if you like Beach towns...there are lots of shops and art houses etc. very fun.

Enjoy...whatever you do. Cal has a lot to see and do..its hard to pick just one if you only have a few days or a day.

What's your transportation situation? Car or public? How many days are you going to be in town? How much money you got? Are you a city or an outdoorsy (sp?) person?

Public transportation: Take a good long look at the Amtrak Sunliner. It goes all the way down to Downtown San Deigo and pretty far North too. ~$50 (US) from Los Angeles to San Deigo RT. There's plenty to see and do along this route. If you're over 21 you can also just drink and look out the window.

Private trans: Head to the south beachs like newport or laguna...you're a young single man, right? Find a state beach (you can drink on CA state beaches), fill a cooler full of goodies, catch a tan, and try out a few lines :red:

Empty your bank account and go to an amusement park. You might be able to even get to one or two rides, lines permitting.

House of Blues at Disney is a killer place to see local and cover bands. My pals AC/DC cover plays there a lot - so does the Atomic Punks (Van Halen). Bring your wallet here too. Mixed drinks are like $xx each D-: But, it is on a nice created pedestrian boardwalk that is open late. There's many other things to do there too.

There's lots more, just answer those questions. I'm sure me and the other SoCal reps can help you out - show you what you're missing. :)

There is the Irvine Meadows for concerts. There is also Univesity of California, Irvine. So I am sure there are a quite a few things to do around the Uni.

And with the Anaheim Ducks in the play offs. You might want to pick up a few tix as well. And yes Disneyland and the beaches are a stones throw from Irvine.

I would recommend Huntington Beach - The waves by the jetty are killer. And sometimes you can see the Coast Guard escorting mana and bat rays out of the marina. Great fishing on the jetty as well. Becareful if you body surf near it as well the rip tides are crazy. I also know they sponser volleyball and surfing events there. The Xgames has the surfing competitions there as well.

I do remember a few years back while at Laguana that the beach next to it was a nude beach as well. And Laguana point is just absolutely beautiful. They do have an arts festival as well there. The fireworks during the 4th of July are just spectacular.

You can also catch the Metrolink in Irvine and take it into Los Angeles(Union Station). They have Chinatown and Olvera street right across from Union Station. Take a dash downtown and you can also see the Wells Fargo and MOCA Museums. They also have alot of art Galleries in Chinatown. Some interesting stuff there as well as the food.
