.mobi What would you do if you could do the MOBI landrush over again?

I'm looking at the list of 400 names I preregistered for in the landrush phase... salivating. I only got a fraction of prereg'd.

If I could do it again, I would...

1) Preregister for 1,000 names.
2) Register the top 300 at 3 different registrars.

...

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU COULD DO IF YOU COULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN?

I would actually get involved with the landrush. I was not involved with this one, but hope to be for the next TLD landrush.

I would've participated in the landrush! I feel like I really missed out...

I would have ignored the "reserved" list, and not wasted my time checking and double checking, since it was incomplete and inaccurate. Several of the names I pre-ordered ended up being reserved, despite not being on the list. I was very disappointed over that.

Dotster & Pool helped me secure 70% of my 110 .mobi pre-landrush domains.
(I placed my Dotster pre-orders on May 8th.)

In a "should'a, would'a, could'a" retrospect:

1.) Would'a ordered several more .mobi's during the pre-landrush

2.) Should'a focused a bit more on DNJournal to capture those domains that have sold for $xxx,xxx

3.) Could'a grabbed more available prime domains & more LLL.mobi's on Septmber 26th, 27th, 28th but hesitated.....I did feel like a robot, though

Nevertheless, I'm very happy with my .mobi portfolio -- I look forward to developing & future .mobi acquisitions

Had I considered .mobis worth regging before 'the day before landrush', I probably would've pre-regged a lot of the names that others did, and got!!

I also would've like to of had a look at your 'pre-reg list' Jeremy!!

I would have applied for 500 premium letters LLL.mobi's and applied for all NNN.mobi's! Now that's a dream...

In reality i somehow registered 2 premium letters LLL.mobi's on 12 October.

I was going to prereg a bunch of NNN's because I figured they'd be worth more than the LLL's being as .mobi was for phones...but I hesitated and then changed my mind. DOH! Also there were quite a few good one-worders left on the 26th but I didn't have the extra funds to reg them at that time. I would have saved my money and sold more of my other domains to be able to prereg and buy at the landrush.

If I knew they were selling LLL.com names at the Mobi landrush I would have registered at least a thousand LLL.com names. I'd be so incredibly rich if I had those thousand LLL.com names now.

I would of actually looked at the reserved list and realized I could not get them.....and focused on LLL.mobi's or something that was actually available.
I will always claim ignorance till I get something right then I will be a pro.

2) Not slept through my pool auctions :td:
3) Fought dotster to get the names they stole from me back
4) Focused LESS on lll.mobi, more on nnn.mobi
5) Waited for general registration for many of the lower quality names

I invested a lot of money.
It took me really a lot of time to search in the Premium list.
I used 25 different registrars.

But what should I do different the next time?


1. NNNs
I totally ignored them. Stupid!!! These are worth a fortune.

2. LLLs
Of course… If you “own” 1,000 LLL’s. It costs you $ 7,000. If you sell only 1% for the average of $ 700 you’ve ROI!

3. Overture results
I cancelled some pre-registrations, because I only looked at “will it be useful on a cell?”
This is a very important issue, but Overture = overture. Searched items sell!!!

4. DNjournal sales charts
I would search all the DNjournal sales charts for availability. If .com sells, the chances are good that .mobi will follow

5. TM-names
I would pre-register all the big TM names that were still available. Now all these names are in the hands of so called domainers who think they can get some $ for these names. This could be drama for dotmobi. The big TM’s who missed their .mobi’s will redirect their mobile website’s to the original .com.

If I regged them, I would give away all the TMs.mobi for reg fee!

I hope everybody who owns a TM: GIVE IT AWAY to the rightful owner for a bargain. It would be very good for dotmobi.

6. POOL.com
Although I used 25 registrars, I totally missed this one. They really did a good job!

7. Did not listen to my wife, parents, relatives…
They told me all the time: “Do not bet on one horse, $ 15k is enough, what if that mibo-thing fails!” - “Mam, it is called .mobi and it is THE FUTURE!”

In general I am happy with my current portfolio and current sales, but a really learned a lot as a domainer the past months…
