Any time a .mobi is seen, it's like the 2nd coming of Jesus:

"Oh man! I saw _____.mobi, and wanted to take a picture of it, but I missed my chance!"

If it really is going to be the standard for mobile Internet - where are all the sites? The only mobi site I see regularly is FoxNews.mobi, and every time they introduce it it's so awkward:

"For mobile news, go on your mobile device to Fox News.mobi - that's MOBEY - M-O-B-I."

If you go on Google and type "mobile internet," how many times do you think ".mobi" shows up on the page? Any guesses? A big fat ZERO. None. Not even an AD for a .mobi site.

So I decided to start thinking like the "Average Joe" - I have a Blackberry and I want to find sites that are compatible with my device. I search: mobile websites blackberry - A few mobi sites, right? No. A big fat ZERO.

Instead:
www.npr.org/mobile
www.google.com/mobile/
www.eamobile.com/blackberry/
mobile.blackberry.com/
mobile.yahoo.com/blackberry

Google is part owner of .mobi for goodness sakes! What the heck are they thinking?

Search "mobile websites" - how many .mobi? Only 1. That's it.

Is this why every time a .mobi appears it's like we saw Bigfoot, or the Loch Ness Monster?

I would love to hear your thoughts, and would like to try to be convinced that .mobi is actually worthwhile, because right now I just hear a big fat toilet bowl flushing. I do have an open mind.

I just need some logical arguments and proof.

I am, and a handshake will do. But thanks for the thought.

I've been to the other .mobi related forum, and frankly - I think it sucks.
Not by any means, and for .mobi, very enlightening.

For .mobi..., not any more unfortunately.

dot com and dot mobi set as an example for milk and coffee. If you a investor who only drink coffee. Will you invest in milk, the answer is no.

For me, I love both. Be a winner accept both.

The world always love the winner. :)

I haven't heard this. Are you sure about that? Lots of rumors exist about Mobi but as far as I know...mTLD owns mobi and it has "backers" which is a term that has yet to be defined. We don't know if the backers own anything, have invested money, made promises, or just allowed mTLD to name them.

Yes - I want to be convinced as to why I should continue to own them. Why should I register them?

If you have a problem with me asking for reasoned thoughts regarding this subject I suggest you read another thread.

So much for trying to have an intelligent conversation about this... This is why .Mobi Kool-Aid drinkers are looked at cock-eyed. The moment you're questioned about it you get uptight and offended, trying to turn it around on the person asking the questions.

I am a .mobi supporter but I do not believe the tld is for everyone.

Here are two instances where you should re-register the names, assuming they are decent names in the first place based on the keyword and not the tld:

1.) Renew the names if you plan to develop them, for example, an actual end-user style business plan or content that a person would care about on a phone. Any name is worth something with traffic.

2.) The keyword has a significant number of daily (wordtracker) or monthly (overture) searches, or they are LLL or other names that makes sense and you can safely renew without damaging your overall finances.

If you have names where nobody cares about the keyword in any tld, you may be better off dropping the names. Of course, if you have a made up brandable name or something with a trend that is just starting these would be exceptions and you could renew those.

Otherwise, send it to auction, sell it on the forums, or drop them if the renewal fees are too high for you.

Actually, Hawkeye - I own MANY .mobi domains. The reason I ask for a logical, persuasive argument in favor of .mobi is because everything is RHETORIC. It's all "fluff." Give me the meat and potatoes. Show me numbers, show me FACTS, not fluff.

I thought I'd been doing a good job of not speaking "fluff" around here.

From what I read, it sounds like you own non premium dot mobis. You are raising the same question, that has been raised over a thousand times. Foolish of you, to even start a thread...

Individuals like you who registered $HIT dot mobi domains, are the ones complaining about the investment. It does not matter if dot mobi is the front face of mobile internet or not... what matters is what you catched during land rush. As a Domainer, if you failed to take advantage of premium dot mobis, then my dear friend... you are not a smart domainer... insted you probably registered $HITY combinations of letters or words, that have no value!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you expect dot mobi too rise to Power in 2-5 years.... seriously take a Break and have a Kit Kat...... Dot mobi or any other extension, who competes in the Domain Industry.. .will have to serve for 10 Years minimum, to get a real understanding and outlook of the investment!

Myself and others who invested in Premium Dot Mobis, are sitting and laughing at fools who registered $HIT - If I sell one Dot Mobi domain today in auction mode in Sedo... Im guranteed my money back for 100 dot mobis I registered and a 8000% Profit minimum. Reg Fee during land rush was only $60 US

Stop crying about your silly mistakes... DOT MOBI is not for Short Term investors who want to turn AbdulMustafaKarimJr.mobi into a profit!

Get Real and face the fact, if you lost your chance in land rush.. then stop complaining. Dot Mobi may have a role in the mobile revolution or not... what matters end of the day... IS..... what I can sell as a Domainer.

Stop crying, and start focusing on what you can do with .com - most of you who cry about dot mobi.. dont even own a premium .com

Who are you to judge whats right or not.... Dot mobi or not, the Domain Industry is about Profit!!! If you cant find it, then move on and find it in another industry!

"Any time a .mobi is seen, it's like the 2nd coming of Jesus:"

Agree, I think many people are clutching at straws with these spottings, basically it is a sign that the extension isn't very popular, imagine if someone started a thread every time they saw a .com, .co.uk or .de.

Given the auction results that have come out there isn't much to laugh about, it is very obvious that the premium names have fallen in value by a very large percentage.

Who cares what drops or not... LLLLs were selling for $70 US minimum a few months ago.. .and now they are having a hard time to sell for $40 US... Get your facts straight.... and stop acting like an expert who knows what the market is or not...

this topic is not about dot mobi.. its about SELFISH individuals who dont understand the true aspect of what a Domainer is! or Not!

Domainer = A individual who Regs, Buys and Sells domains for a Profit... Those of you who complain about other extensions are not Domainers... but individuals who failed to LOCK and SECURE a EASY PROFIT! Since DOT MOBi was the first mobile extension... then it will have VALUE

Failure is not an Option, when it comes to Premium REGS !

Go google DOMAIN PROFIT - you may add a extra IQ Point to your BRAIN!

To be honest I am struggling to understand much of this post, your reply doesn't seem to have a lot to do with what I said.

You can make your point without being condescending. With the tone of your message, it's no wonder why every time a .mobi thread starts elsewhere, it's moved here... Into this .mobi world where nothing is questioned, nothing is discussed intellectually. Instead, you sit back, drink your Mobi Kool Aid, and tell those of us with questions that we're whining.

Be professional.

GF a number of people have answered you without being condescending and with logic and realistic information. It seems the only people who are acknowledged are the ones who are fanatics on either side. Dagersh, DBADT and I have all given you answers to your questions in a way that lead to intelligent discussion, yet our posts were not answered. It kind of takes the focus off discussion and places it on combativeness when rational posts are seemingly ignored.

Just my two cents.

Coast - absolutely - I'm sorry if I got distracted by the rude posts... They diverted attention from the good posts you and others put up.

Let's continue the conversation! :)

I sold a LLLL.com for over $100,000 that would be worthless in .mobi.

But hey, at least flowers.mobi went for $200,000.

You do know a 4 letter dictionary word is 'not the same' as an LLLL don't you?!?? There is a 'big' diff. And if it was an arbitrary LLLL, trust me, the domaining world would love to know about it. So, did you sell a 'dictionary word', or an LLLL???

It was neither. It was a proper name.

Beatitudes.mobi

It gets around 30-50 visits a day, and I get nonstop emails from people around the world. Most of the browsers are all mobileaswell.

This is a simple site, the next version will be much better.

Trolls aren't allowed in this thread, and if they show up I'll cut them.
