i have the domain name diana.tv a $500 premium due for renewal.
i was going to build a princess diana tribute site

but i now have princessdiana.tv my question is this!

would you drop diana.tv with its $500 renwal price tag?

or is they value in having both!

i think this is a good question as it can apply to other same type of domain names .

lots girl names still avalable to reg at this time even my wifes name so girls names are still there to be regd,but this name a little different.

anyhelp wouldhelp me make my mind up thanks

I think I would just keep princessdiana! But if you were worried about competition and had the funds you could keep both.

I love love :hearts: her and I think its a great name. She will forever be a legend.

Well i think $500 is a bit too much for person name.

Can't see much happening with this name other than a site dedicated to late princess diana.

I would advice take a call if you have development plans than surely renew otherwise let it go.

Otherwise this same question will arise next year when the renewal comes.

For this to be truly a MAJOR Diana tribute channel, you'll probably spend more money on buying footage of Diana in a day than you would on the renewal of Diana the name.

If you've got a clear business plan then renew both for a year and see what happens. If you're only mulling over the idea, DROP IT and keep just the yearly renewal name.

You've got that many good Premium names it might be in your interest to concentrate on developing at least one or two to their full extent rather than diluting your skills on a whole host of names. You can always go back in the aftermarket to build new sites later.

Of course, if you've got the cash, keep all the names you have and never let them go.

As for the Diana idea - I think it is fabulous. The strength and level of interest in the late HRH The Princess of Wales is phenomenal.

But think about it, just to get the rights to use 'candle in the wind' as the sites theme tune would set you back at least a few hundred over the year.

And, of course, it would be very hard to get any new footage. However, you could do a lot of Vox Pops from hundreds of people around the world as to how Diana affected them personally.

Finally, you could get that slimy old butler of hers to front the channel. You get more publicity in minute by using him than you ever would by traditional means.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

But Premiums are Premiums because they need a HIGH level of maintenance just to pay their way.

i realy am 50/50 what to do with this name ,i do think the name diana has scope but as you say jimbo the cost.

it realy is a tricky one. as we all know diana was special .i did meet her but had no camera at the time,what was a shame.

i think i will have to sleep on this one,

IF you are seriously planning development then i'd renew Diana.TV as it works great for your tribute site idea & 1st name .tv's could have a bright future anyway as more people decide to set up their own channel online as technology gets easier. :imho:

If you do decide to take forward this tribute site idea then i'd simply use youtube to get most of the video footage needed, most of us would much prefer not to use youtube but it will give you hours of free footage with saving on the bandwidth costs so i'd say it's worth the compromise.

Get lots of youtube videos of Diana through the years with a written story of her life that shows a different video that summarizes the different chapters of her life. Add a forum where Diana addicts can talk there lifes away with others who have no life (lol, i'm sure they all are not as sad)
Then use an Affiliate site like Tradedoubler of Amazon where you can set up a 'Diana Shop' to sell collectors pieces, general Diana tat, Books on Diana, general Royal Family souvenirs and even travel packkages with flights to London and tours of old Diana hang outs (like the Palace)

If you develop right then you could have a very popular site as people are still fascinated with Diana to this day.

One slight concern i do have is about the domain 'princessdiana.tv'
I am no expert but would Diana's estate or even The Royal family not object to you using that domain?? I dont know too much about Trademarks or copyright but using the domain 'Princess Diana' together on a Diana site sound like it could be an issue to me.
I'm probably 100% wrong here but it's best to be careful before you put lots of time & effort in.

All depends on your pockets I guess and development expenses. Not cheap to do I am sure.

I am 60, 40 on this. 60 in favor of keeping name. If this name drops probably go up to 1,000 or 1500. If you drop let one of them pick name up.

Its a powerful name and she was a truly unique and done wonderful things when she was living.

on the other hand premiums are a bit hard to handle, so if u have a lot of names to renew and your budget is limited an option is to put it on the marketplace or just drop it.

if dot tv takes of big time,how nice it would be to type in diana and see a nice flash site of princess diana.

I can totally understand your feeling. I also keep a Chinese IDN .tv - 希望.tv (hope), which I don't expect to earn any money back from it.

Once I got a chance, I would like to develop it as a non-profit site for reminding people go after hope and dreams.

Diana was someone who will have movies made about her for the next several centuries. In fact, I'm kind of surprised that Oliver Stone hasn't produced a documentary suggesting that George Bush had her assassinated. Maybe it's Michael Moore's turn. The domain is a keeper, but perhaps for now find a way to add content via partners.

For example, search for 'diana' on hulu.com . Tons of footage you can pull from there. Another good example would be to look at Amazon.com . They provide movie trailers to their affiliates, so you could pull up every dvd that Amazon is selling, and play any trailers that they have on your site.

Sprinkle the site with articles, maybe a forum for those who still think that it wasn't an accident, or for going after the papparrazi ( sp? ) , and I think you will get an amazing amount of traffic.

If the site is done tactfully, you can make a truly nice site about her - and perhaps down the road someone will make an offer.

What I would like to see is a forum tracking the whereabouts of the idiot photographers that were trailing her so hard. I think their names should be posted time after time suggesting that their involvement may have caused the death of a beloved princess.

OK LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT - there is a huge difference between photgraphers and the PAPARAZZI. The PAPARAZZI were responsible for this. I assume you were calling them idiots RIGHT?


On another note. This is a great name surely worth alot more than the regfee to many many people. You now have $1k invested in it, it is in your best interest to actively market and find those folsk who would pay anything to have it.
