What script should I use?

I want to develop a similar site to EzineArticles dot com, an articles base. Not sure if wordpress can let me do this, what script do you suggest for something like this?

I would say if you know some PHP then code it yourself.

There are many many article sites out there. So you would want to keep it bit different.

I would worry about the security side of the script though.

If you know you're way around in Wordpress it should be pretty easy. Basically you only have too edit your templates. You could even search for an existing theme that suits your needs.

However, if you want flexibility I suggest hiring a coder to do this. A basic category-based article system shouldn't cost much.

I want it to be really unique, I think I will customize one from scratch. But some people say why create things from scratch when professional scripts have been made already? The thing is that this project is little special for me. I want minimal features and full customization, I do php thats fine.. basic php but I'd worry about someone injecting my script for example ~ you know those premade scripts have run thru bug tests, so on.

I basically want this idea:

Setup a search engine where people type a keyword or choose category and read articles about that thing in a simplified page with minimal features.. just the ability to use comments, author link etc.

I'd simply go to EzineArticles collect what I would like to do, and what I would not like to do then start working on it.

Do you think a coder with little knowledge can achieve something like this?~

Use Drupal, and find the modules that fit your need. I recommend start with drupal 5 (because version 6 is not up to date with the modules and you can upgrade later). You can go into the drupal forum and ask for advice on what modules to use among the 1000+ modules available; do a little browsing through the modules before you ask your question on the forum so that you get a better response.

Wordpress is much easier to start with and has beautiful themes/templates and excellent community and modules, but drupal has a few more degrees of freedom when it comes to a collaborative website like the one you are looking to build.

Some other options: Joomla, Xoops, PHPnuke, Plone (runs on python while all others on php)

Ok guys, I tried drupal before, and it looked to complicated with much time and effort needed to customize it ~ as its CMS in nature. So its out..

The other 3, I will need to decide on one from those and considering that the last one is free. ~

I have included Wordpress 2.5 as an option too, given that so many plugins available and could help make this modification, I installed it and going to see if I could turn it to what I want.

ArticleMS is awful script, I installed it 5 times and the categories continue to look messed up (not correctly sorted)

I think thats why its free. I spent the whole morning trying with it with no chance.
