Hey everyone,
I've been exploring cryptography lately and came across something quite fascinating known as Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs). Basically, from my understanding of it, it is a method in which one person (the prover) is able to assure another individual (the verifier) that a statement is true without revealing any actual information about the statement itself.
Not bad, right?
For example, instead of revealing your password to prove your identity, ZKPs would allow you to prove you know the password without needing to present it. It has huge implications for privacy in areas like:
Blockchain (e.g., zk-SNARKs and zk-STARKs on Ethereum and Zcash)
Authentication (logging in without exposing sensitive data)
Voting systems
Secure data sharing
Some discussion questions:
How do ZKPs actually work behind the scenes?
Where are ZKPs actually being put to use in the real world?
How do zk-SNARKs and zk-STARKs compare?
Would ZKPs ever become the standard in Web3 or even mainstream online life?
Are there any risks or limitations we should be aware of?
Can't wait to hear your thoughts, breakdowns, and any resources you'd recommend learning more about!
