What is your number 1 reason for participating at Namepros? Of course people participate here in many areas but what is your primary reason?

To learn how to make money with domain names -- also to keep up with new technologies and trends.

Keep up on industry news.

But I do think the best thing about namePros at the moment, is that it is the platform for the individual domainer.

Having namePros, makes it harder for registrars ,marketplaces & other domain service businesses to screw up, eventually hurting the individual domainer. That is why I am sticking around.

It is a domainer friendly platform.

Everything else is up for debate, it is what we make it to be, sometimes its boring, sometimes its ridiculous but we play a part in that.

I hope its survives whatever its going through at the moment.

My reasons for participating here has changed over the years to many of your options here bases on my different stages in domaining.

When i joined over 10 years ago, my reason for joining was to learn how to make money with domain names.

Then shortly after that, my main reason for participating was to buy and sell domain names. I remember having threads w/100+ domains being auctioned at the same time and sometimes id have prob 20 names getting bid on. It was hell to update but quite fun too considering the money i was making from those auction threads. I often think i want to try that again here. Too busy now though. Maybe sometime when work slows down a bit for me.

I think around that time, i used this place as a bit of my social network. I hate Facebook and only recently have done twitter a bit. So i did use this as my social network for a time.

Now that I've had some success at selling my domains in many different ways and have a portfolio that i'm pretty comfortable with even though i tweak it a little bit probably every 6 months i participate here a little less. Still view often just don't write as much as i used to.

So now i participate mainly to keep up on Industry News. I also like helping people whenever i see someone struggling and they seem like they genuinely need a hand and i know i can help. Although weird story, recently helped someone and didnt even get a response, thanks, like whatever. Kindof makes me not want to participate since of course it doesnt translate into money for me at all which is not a big deal but w not an ounce of gratitude it puts me off from helping more and more.

Also, too much drama lately. Too many liars, Lot of new people shouting about their latest and greatest dot wtf sales with no sales data and its really surprising to me how cocky some are. I do believe that most members here see thru their BS though.

We all love good sales stories whatever youre selling. I love dot com of course but really love dot tv and enjoy a couple crazy niches. When i post about any i always provide sales data which i believe is critical to whatever you are investing in.

I look at some threads lately and see lots of talk about bullying, but i dont see the bullying. If someone says you're full of $hit, and it should be said alot more imho, just show your proof, back it up and that will shut everyone up. No BS.
Simple.

I still always donate to NP because it has helped me tremendously and i seriously doubt i would be doing as well as i am now if not for all my time here, so i see this Forum as the most important place available for anyone that has any interest in domaining.

I voted for "Keep up with Industry News"

Interesting poll...wish we could select two reasons (don't know if the system would allow) as my second pick would be keeping up with industry news.

Have been involved with domain names since 1996 when acquired our first of many domain names and was active and reasonably industry savvy ( for our purposes ) through maybe 2010 or thereabouts.

When domain interests rekindled in 2015 it took little time to realize I was no longer
up-to-date with the current state and machinations of the domain industry .

Joined NamePros after reviewing the site several times as recognized the Forum would present topics and insights into the current state of domains - assisting me in " updating " to the latest trends and, Industry News for my purposes.

To learn to start to share.
NPs (to me) is Alphabet of domaining.

I come to NamePros for a few reasons:

- As the founder of Epik, I am interested in following the industry. There are are a lot of smart folks here , an of whom are generous with their ideas and feedback. NamePros as an industry treasure.

- I have long been interested in cutting through the nonsense when it comes to solving problems in the industry and helping domains to evolve to a more respected asset class.

- NamePros is a great place to source ideas for new online brands. I have bought many domains here as a result both for Epik but also for clients.

-Recently, I became deeply concerned about the future of lawful free speech and civil liberties online. It has become a popular NamePros topic here, here and here.

Sometimes Namepros threads here can get a little inflammatory. However, in general I find the community to be civil, professional, and full of interesting people.

The Number 1 reason I am here for is the constant learning it offers to any domain investor at each stage of their expertise.

Yep. I am questioning many other "reports". For someone to profess to have sold a name under an NDA and pay 7 figures and the name months later is still parked at the Brokers page- seems like it should be questioned.

I joined to learn..now I stay to earn (buy/sell..mainly buy)

Believe poll might be biased/skewed by having "debate" as #2 choice.

Also there is human nature, personal agenda.
If this was my poll..one more answer would be added.."To promote my blog/brand"

Choosing just one is hard! I think as @Vito said in his outstanding post, I suspect it changes over time for most people. I think I joined attracted by idea of buying and selling without commissions, but I have never tried very hard (or successfully) to buy or sell much on NPs, so very soon it became a place to learn about domains. So many people so happy to share great ideas, up to date news, answer technical questions, tips, analyses, etc. I think almost everyone can and does on some topics help educate others.

But ultimately I think over time it does become our social network. Even many who I have never met in real life, and who I don't even know their identities, have become people I love to interact with and value as online friends. Domaining can be a solitary, stressful and at times discouraging business, and it is important to have a social network to help at those times.

Why do people watch CNN? Because they like all types of world news. Why do people read Tech Crunch? Because they like all types of tech news. Why do people look at Yahoo? Because they like all types of news.

In my opinion there should be an all of the above option because choosing only one wouldn't be the correct answer. It's all of the above.

Another quality poll by Equity, thx.

Yes @hookbox

Voted "social network" but it's a mixed bag for me. What keeps me here is the opportunity of choice; regardless of day or night, awake or tired, bad mood or good mood:
I can interact on topics, or just read up on topics, scan through names to buy, or put up one of my own to sell.

It wouldn't work for me without each of these elements in place as an option.

For me, at different times, my reason for participating on NP has been each of the poll choices.

Nowadays, its mostly habit or maybe addiction.
Like a daily multivitamin. :)

If habit/addiction had been on the list, I might have chosen it.

I respect your opinion for me it certainly would not be all. I use Domaining.com to keep up with domaining news, I don't come here to debate and it's not my social network.

And for many a person I have dealt with, when I would write long educational posts in .tv, there would be people who would pm me, cool post too long, I really don't care about education, equity just get me money, it's the only reason I am in this God forsaken business, please help me get money.

So I believe the thought that everyone comes to Namepros for all of the above is misguided.

Certainly not biased or skewed, the order in which they were in made no difference and was not done for a reason. For many years I had plenty of people tell me they just came here to stir things up. I imagine the fact that the poll is public means some people who are here first and foremost to debate don't want their name attached to that.

@equity78 you repost threads on thedomains, which expands the audience too. Thats a good thing, and unique really.

The good news blogs like tldinvestors, thedomains, online domain, ellliots, dnw, Ricksblog are also from a different angle or subject, say UDRP news.

The โ€œnewsโ€ bits here I like gettIng a tip on are like โ€œincidentsโ€, for example, with push problems at registrars, special offers, shill bidding and other nonsense, irregularities, etc to watch out for.

Blogs are somewhat beholden to their advertisers, and avoid these less newsworthy items and touchy subjects unlike the forum here presents a different view. Some good, some accurate, some bad or accusatory headlines.

You contribute here too regularily and are able to debate, that sets your blog apart from the others is your regular contributiin. Most other blogs do not. Then a couple I wonโ€™t mention have in the past talk shit about this forum, criticize the people here and donโ€™t add any real value, in fact misleading or self serving info.

Keep doing what you are doing and posting the good and bad without advertiser bias. Thanks.

I still think it is biased/skewed cause that (debates/trolling) seems to be a recent trending topic here, and getting a lot of views.

Yes, there been "sh!t disturbers" in the past, the ones that come to my mind have either been weeded out or moved on..
