What is the best language to use?

Server Side coding, or Desktop Programming?

If Server Side, i recommend PHP.

What exactly were you planning to create? Desktop applications (for which operating system), or web languages such as php :P.

If server side languages, I agree with Hitch all the way, php is da bomb!

Perl or Python, PHP is a nice simple language but it doesnt support multi-threading

**** multi-threading :lol: If your starting a new language server-side then PHP would be the place to start, you can then progress onto different languages like perl and python as amnezia said.

Most languages have common functions and are layed out using the same format so once you have one the others come easier.

For desktop: VB6 (it may not be the best, but its easy to learn), C++
