What is a subdomain and why is it used?

I'm stuck!!! I want to park yfacil dot com at parked but have no idea what category or what any relevant keywords are. It has subdomains cursos.yfacil.com and exitoencasa.yfacil.com. I have no idea what a subdomain is and their uses etc and would appreciate any info, as well as your thoughts on keywords.

I also need keyword help for ben3 dot com which i also want to park. It is a 9yr old Japanese domain and looks like on archive dot org it may have been some sort of store with raggedy ann dolls way back in 2005. Not sure what the current site(s) were doing after that.

Internet Archive: Wayback Machine will tell you what the domain was used for - up to a year or six months ago.

A subdomain is a domain within a domain. So in cursos.yfacil.com there was a website there (even if it is connected to the base yfacil.com domain it counts as a separate website). There are essentially unlimited subdomains on each domain name. Subdomains are used to get different listings in Google (looks like that is what happened in your case), to allow many email accounts on one domain, to "create" short or cool new kinds of domains by promoters (name.uk.com, name.new.net). Hosting that offers multiple websites for a low fee (add-on domains) use subdomains.

If there is a lot of traffic looking for a specific product on each subdomain then somehow you would need to park each subdomain. If the traffic is minor then you can point the subdomains to the base domain.

I'm guessing you recently purchased the domain?

In order for you to create sub-pages, you need hosting for the domain.

You cannot park a sub-domain. However, all traffic coming from the sub-domains will default to your parked page.

Many thanks helpful people. Now it's clear. Can you guys give me an idea of a good keyword for yfacil and ben3? I'm tearing my hair out, well, what's left of it anyway, trying to find something suitable!! Both have residual traffic (i hope)!!.
