I own a domain and I bought it November 1st 2004. I failed to renew it in time purposly because I planned on purchasing it here at NamePros. It went down for less than a week and for some reason is renewed for another year and pointing towards the same nameservers. It's been over a month and things are fine but no money has left my hands.

So what's up?

Hi Taylor.

Two mistakes.

Mistake #1: Letting a domain you value wander into a drop wasteland.
Reason: It's naive and delusional to think/hope/believe that nobody else would ever want it.

Mistake #2: Telling the whole world about it.
Reason: See reason #1. Your chances of quiet expiration/pickup have just evaporated.

It's not too late to fix both mistakes. What happened is your current registrar entered your name into a grace period, within which you can still renew it at no extra cost. The timeframe of this status is a mystery and you're now at the registrar's mercy. The new expiration date means absolutely nothing. RENEW THE DOMAIN NOW. Peace of mind is worth a couple of extra beans.

Just a friendly advice.

EDIT: Domain specifics removed at OP's request

Ditto what Midano said. But I'll explain further.

For com/net/org/info/biz domains, their respective Registries autorenew an
expired name for one year and bill their sponsoring registrars accordingly. The
sponsoring registrar, however, can have the domain name deleted any time
between 1-45 days and get a credit for it.

Either check the domain name's WHOIS record at its registrar or log inside the
account if you still can. It'll authoritatively tell you if it's expired or not.

If the domain name has indeed been renewed for 1 year, ask the registrar for
specifics. Check also their legal fine prints if they themselves will renew the
expired name and all that.

Some registrars will also post a "fake" renewal on their site after expiration while they attempt to find a new buyer before having to drop it. Godaddy does this with names that go to tdnam.com for auction. I think some snapnames and pool partners do this as well.
