What extension would you choose?

I want to start a personal hobby-related website (a hobby like model building--I would mention the hobby but if I did it would give the domain away and I'd rather not do that, at least until I decide on the extension I want to use and have secured the domain).

The name I want is already taken in .com, .net, .org, and .info. Any one of those would have been my first choice. So here's what's left that I'm considering.

.ws
.us
.name
.tv
.sc

There are other CC extensions available (like .ru and .cn) but I'm not interested in them. I'm in the USA so .us might work, but my website (and hobby) is not USA specific (actually it's more popular outside the USA).

Which one of these would you choose?

.ws IMO. .ws = west somoa OR website. Perfect IMO!

If you want your hobby to appeal worldwide, .us is out of the question.

.biz, .name, .tv for a hobby website, just wont work...

.sc = south carolina

But I suggest spending some time thinking of a new domain that the .com is open for...

I am leaning towards .ws. I swore I would never get one of those "country codes trying to be re-branded as a 'real' TLD" extensions. However, as far as those kinds of extensions goes, .ws is probably the best.

Although my hobby is international, my site would kind of be an American's perspective of the hobby so .us would not be entirely inappropriate. An advantage of .us is that I have more choices regarding where to register it (the only low-cost places to register .ws that I know of are GoDaddy and DomainSite).

.biz is tempting because of its popularity (at least compared to the other extensions) but my site is not business related and I don't want it to be mistaken as such. Maybe I'll get the .biz in addition to whatever else I get and just use it as a pointer, although I can't imagine getting any type-in traffic from it so it might be a waste of money.

None of the other extensions are really appropriate, as the lack of recommendations here confirms. The only one I was really considering was .sc, which I think unofficially means "source," but I don't know of anyone in my hobby would know that.

So now I have to choose between .ws and .us.
