What does SEO mean to you?

Hi everyone,

The purpose of me open this threat is to get in all SEO lovers to share you opinion about what is SEO means to you? Because I realized, many people always think SEO is just about ranking.

1. SEO means actual optimization of the website to enable search engine to find them on SERP with the targeted search terms.

2. SEO should be targeted to help you find qualified prospects, not just random traffic.

3. SEO is not one time effort, is an ongoing practice that requires continual maintenance and optimization, not just a one-time application of keywords and one time link building.

My conclusion is the ultimate objective of adopt SEO for a website is about "Quality Traffics" or "Targeted Traffics", is not about just ranking.

Why I say so? For instance:

If I can have 10 short and competitive keywords ranked on top 5 positions on SERP and each keyword attracted 100 visitors - total I have 10 x 100 = 1000 visitors.

If I can have 3000 long tail and niche keywords ranked on top 50 positions on SERP and each keyword attracted 2 visitors - total I have 3000 x 2 = 6000 visitors.

Do remember short keywords might received mass traffic and might have higher percentage are junk traffic. Long tail and niche keywords can have higher percentage in terms of sales conversion.

For me money is everything not SEO.

I would do SEO to make a site earn. And that is right I don't even care for traffic. I would be happy with 100 visitors clicking on high paying ads or buying products that makes me more profits.

I do love SEO and I love having a go time and again. Yet it is becoming a part of the whole picture. Good site. Great content. Good placement of ads. Nice support if there is one needed. etc are also as important as SEO itself.

If only SEO is concerned. I think yes in end getting traffic that converts should be the goal. Getting links that are relevant should be the goal. Getting what you have put in should be the goal.

I have had a discussion with some friends about what do we get and what not. I did mentioned that one would be getting a lot and one would get less. But one should ask himself is he getting enough for his efforts. That's all. If he is expecting much more out of his efforts then he will get nowhere.

I agree with all your points. You only forgot to mention how time-consuming serious SEO can be. Seo and SEO isn´t the same if we talk also about qualtiy.
But I guess this is stuff for an other topic. :imho:

Yes if you talk about even further objective, SEO is about money.

There are many keep talking about ranking positon, whether is no1 or no10 I do not care if I have enough good quality traffics

For the most it means a lot to be ranked #1 - #3 in search engines and there are studies about what people click normally but really SEO means much more. If you run a site for years you will find out you need to change your tactics often to be successful.

Thousands of sites use for the same word H1 and possible the same or a similar meta. So Seo is more and it can´t work well without permanent analyze and strategy. Also its a difference if you optimize for Yahoo or Google.

I will agree to all your points. SEO is to make a site SE friendly. To make them easily crawl-able by SE bots and to optimize the site with useful content.

And yes, targeting non competitive keywords is a very good idea.
