In New York City, we are about 8 hours drive from "Marlboro Country" (Virginia/Carolinas).
However, the wise Mayor Bloomberg makes his own laws and they are about $10 a pack. I haven't bought cigarettes in years but I see the prices on the deli counter in the mornings when I get my milk. In a strange twist, you can still buy a bag of rolling tobacco for $5 which makes about 100 cigarettes. New York has always been big on handling out cigarettes to strangers without question. I see most young people who are not acquainted with the old ways when asked "can I have a cig" they say, "ok, $1", and people pay. It's gotten that silly.
On a lighter note, you can buy a bag of the "other grass" for about $10 and feel much better about yourself for about 20 minutes without the use of nicotine.
