I felt that this would be the best thread to post this,

Both being .tv names

I would be great full if you could give your opinions on both names :

racingtips.tv

and

vapour.tv

Are they worth anything?

Where would be the best place to sell them?

I believe there are much better choices you can make with your money.

My take is simple....
.tv domains as is are not worth much.
Have to be developed.
Even then, be ready to spend money, lots of money, to promote a .tv.
People do not search for a site this is .tv.
Rarely type in any tld except .com.

Good luck selling them.

RacingTips.tv COULD be built to be a place for live racing tips, especially if presented by a knowledgable and likeable person.
Vapour.tv could be a hip brandable.

BUT

In reality neither name is really suited to the .tv extension - can you really see massive amounts being spent on an expensively filmed, and no doubt hourly, daily, racing tips service when words are all that are needed - or large amounts being spent on a brandable TV name when you acquire another similarly cool brandable for a few dollars unregistered?

And this is without the fact that RacingTips and Vapour both break two unsaid rules of a good name - one is a two-worder while the other has an English English and a US English spelling.

Sorry, but I feel you may do better dropping these two.

I would agree with your simple take that It is indeed hard for the majority of people to find profit in .tv names.

In many ways, that's why so many others are so keen on them.

There are a great many here who have enjoyed several five-figure sales for .tv names. Indeed, if you look through the other posts in the TV section you will see a significant number of high figure sales in just the past few weeks and months. This info is readily available here or via DNJournal, TheDomains, etc

With regard to your assumption that people don't search for a site that is .tv - I find that a little dated. Those kind of conversations were being had seven years ago, but today the .tv name is firmly entrenched as the norm - especially for anything televisual.

Certainly, in areas where a film content is a major part of the site the use of a .tv is more preferable to any other extension, including .com

Also, as the owner of several .tv websites, I can confirm that most of them do incredibly well on google search and are not discriminated against for not being a .com!

I do agree that fewer will actually direct type in a .tv name - but equally the number of people typing in a .com name is dropping just the same. That's why we are seeing so many typo's being dropped all over the show in every extension.

I don't mind people slagging off .tv - indeed, I've done it many times myself (mostly over the stupidity of the verisign running the extension) - but I do object to sweeping, misleading and ignorant statements about .tv that have no basis in fact, reality and reseach.

Vapourisers are huge at the moment and are taking the world by storm, there are around 2,0 BILLION http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_people_in_the_world_smoke?#slide=1 smokers in the world and with e-cigs gaining momentum every day vapour and vapourisers and going going to lead the way in smoking and quitting smoking.

Horse racing is a world wide sport with over 100 race meetings held every day with usually 8 races per meeting then there is virtual horse racing,,, there are plenty of punters that want to PAY for racing tips So to a tipster this would be invaluable, Tips websites are still big business, bookies show every single race, every day ON TV screens in their establishments ,, news papers have dedicated sections on horse racing tips.

Also racing tips is registered in all other major extensions,

No, they're not worth anything.

Where would be the best place to sell them?

There probably isn't a "best place" to sell them. I would say the only hope is that an enduser is interested & contacts you & you make the occasional big sale that pops up every now & then that surprises people.

My opinion is that you can add tips to almost any root word but being that .tv is not a widely used extension value is weak. You can say I am biased because I own Racing.tv, however if your aim is resell or hold for a one day big sale then your best odds are will root words that work with .tv

Most great keywords in .tv at this point are taken or reserved. Many domainers, regardless of extension, will say and I also believe to be true.....you can buy 100 subgrade domains or buy one superior name and your better off with the latter.

That being said, two word or three word names in .tv are best for someone for a limited budget or plans for development and rarely will result in a profitable sale against your yearly holding cost. Category keywords in .tv are best for resale, big budget developments and/or future value, imo.

What category keyword domains work and don't work is an entire discussion and very opinionated and you will find many threads and opinions on that in .tv sub-forum with examples to support both arguments.

I do not like these domains very well. RacingTips seems more like one you would have to develop for your own use if you hoped to resell for any value. Vapour has kind of a neat feel to the name, but someone would need to work to develop it as a brand, tying the word into some visual effect/logo/topic on the site in order to imprint it on the surfer's memory.

Just seems like a lot of work.
