Windows XP (latest SP)? Heheh...I've been using Windows XP for years and I'm really used to it. It's simple to use and very straightforward. Just the other day I was on a Mac PC and I didn't like how the desktop icons 'slide (or whatever it's called)'. It's also just a revised version of Windows, the way I see it. Haven't tried Linux and the others.

I would have to say Ubuntu 7.10, the Ubuntu 8.04 Beta is nice, but there are a few too many bugs currently for me, hopefully they will all be fixed for the release date though.

Are linux Os's hard to get used to?

Have always been interested because windows is just to vunerable at times. Would like to try Ubuntu or suse, but I don't want to have reformat back to windows cause I don't know what I'm doing

I found it very easy, within 2 days I knew more about Linux than I did Windows and was perfectly happy dropping into the command line if I broke the GUI (which happened often during my early 'experimentation' days :p)
I have heard horror stories though. Generally about wireless networking, though I've had no problems in that area.
You could install Ubuntu on a seperate partition and the installer would configure GRUB (the bootloader) to give you a choice between Ubuntu and Windows when you start up your computer.

I think win 2003 :D

Most of the things crash even the spywares and trojans don't work properly on it :D and are caught really easily.

Everytime there is an attack it shutsdown :D

We all now find xp the the easiest because we got used to use
But dont you remember when it first came up . no once was expecting to have my computer and my documents hidden in start menu and about the Control panel new system ( i never loved and used)

Well, I store all my files on my portable harddrive, so that will decrease the space used by a few dozen gigabytes.
If you haven't used Ubuntu before I would recommend Ubuntu over Kubuntu. They are both the same OS, except Ubuntu used the GNOME desktop environment and Kubuntu uses KDE. I found KDE much more confusing than GNOME.
I would also recommend getting version 7.10 as that is the latest stable release. 8.04 is still in beta so unless you have experiance of fixing Linux bugs, stick with 7.10 and upgrade later next month when 8.04 is stable.

Edit:: Heres the ISO file: http://ubuntu-releases.datahop.it/gutsy/ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso
Burn that to a CD and reboot your computer with the CD in the drive. Provided your computer boots from CD before HDD (you may need to change that in the BIOS), you will have a fully functioning Ubuntu OS running from your CD drive, with a nice graphical installer.

Ah, vista partitions. I'm told that can be difficult. Does Vista have a built in partition editor? The disk comes with a partition editor, but I have been told Vista can be very picky about editing partitions.

Oh, right, you have 10GB of unpartitioned space? Brilliant, use that.

Use the disk, and when you get to the partition settings click 'Manual', then set up the unpartitioned space as the root partition (mount point '/').

There is no best OS. It all depends on what you want to do, and of course personal preferences. For networking I like (Free)BSD, or any Debian-based Linux. For the desktop I like Mac OSX (Leopard) a lot, but XP with all the service packs is also ok, and Linux distro's for the desktop are also getting better every day.

Bravo, give that man a medal. There is no best OS, it depends on personal preferences and what you need to do, though Microsoft would like us to think otherwise...
