Ok, I know .name is deader than dirt, but I saw this one and thought, hey, I know a lot of domainers are always looking for typo names, so...

Why not Typo.name ?

Would be a perfect place to talk about the typo buying business. If developed right you can get your typo name at Typo.name !

Any ideas, appraisals, whacks to the forehead? :guilty:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I think its a good idea but the value would be in the development. Just develop a small site and see how it flys. I have made sites and let them sit over a year just to get them though the "sand box" then i evaluate them. You probable could sell this for reg fees on namepros no problem, so i dont think your really risking any money by reg it.

The market for .name domains is basically not there. Decent name for development, but there have not been any notable .name sales lately so it's hard to get a good estimated value for these types of names.

Most likely reg fee, but good for development. A forum would be good.

100th post! :)

(conflatulations on yr 100th there wyatt - here's a big bronx cheer for ya from the peanut gallery) :yell: :hehe:

Agreed - it's a decent memorable "keyword" name for development, and that should be easy enough to setup with a few articles and links ... But resale to a reseller is going to be a tough pitch. And in this case - even the theoretical end-user is going to be a domainer (ie, reseller) so that high-value potential end-user sale just isn't there in any obvious way for this one ...

as just a .name I'd price it around reg fee (btw I recently regged "regfee.name" just as a joke/hack :) ) but it might possibly pay for itself and then some with just a few hours of development effort and monetization via CPC probably with "domain registration" (possibly also trademark law) oriented ads ... Possibly also consider links to listings for any other relevant domains you have for sale. Then you'll have a decent developed .name with traffic and revenue stats, which will make a much easier sale to reseller based on those numbers rather than just the .name by itself ... IMO (and please note - I really don't know what I'm talking about!)

Thanks for the ideas guys. I agree that development is the way to go here. I think it can be successful because I like how the name is short, easy to remember, and fits the target niche perfectly.

By the way, I have read a lot of good posts regarding the typo business at this forum and others . Does anyone know what the policy is for using portions of threads on a personal webpage? Are there copyright issues even if you supply the source? How about if I paraphrase the relevant posts?

As you can see I am thinking of developing the site already and first order of business is content!

Agreed - it's a *great* memorable "keyword" name for development, and that should be easy enough to setup with a few articles and links ... But resale to a reseller is going to be a tough pitch. And in this case - even the theoretical end-user is going to be a domainer (ie, reseller) so that high-value potential end-user sale just isn't there in any obvious way for this one ... I'd put it a bit above reg fee (btw I recently regged "regfee.name" just as a joke/hack :) ) but might possibly pay for itself and then some with just a few hours of development effort and monetization via CPC probably with "domain registration" (possibly also trademark law) oriented ads ... For someone who says he doesn't know what he talks about, it sure sounds like good advice to me. At this point, I like the idea of developing it more than reselling it anyway.

But since I am very inexperienced in development it will be slow going. I like the advice of starting with an article or two and going from there. Which is idea behind the questions of my last post.

google "fair use" - guidelines are generally -> short quotes are permitted, best if interspersed with your own commentary - paraphrasing is fine (ideas are not copyrighted, only the exact words by which they are expressed) - also remember as far as NamePros posts go I think they are considered property/responsibility of individual posters who wrote them (not sure about that, check the TOS) ... Of course add links to NamePros where appropriate (and maybe get a few referral stats thereby, for whatever that's worth) ...

Just go ahead and try to write some content - you might be surprised at how easily a decent piece can emerge - maybe not that different from writing a few posts in a thread here ... make it a blog or even a wiki format to take pressure off need to write "authoritative" fact-based articles, could work it more from a personal "learning about the risks and rewards in this domaining niche" / "journey of discovery" / "questions and answers and philosophical musings" / "tidbits and hat-tips" to other's recent blog posts format ... Worth a try, at the very least you'll learn a bit about development strategies in the process.

aw gee :) thanks, no money just applause - and a chance to pimp my own little strokes of domain wankery in the typo arena -> "genreic.com" and oh yeah - "tardmark.com" ... :hehe:

I'll be checking for updates on typo.name - good luck with it!

Ok, you know what, another good idea. When the site is done I will post a link to your typo domain sale pages if you have any. Just PM the links to me.

Same applies to anyone else who wants a free link to their typo name sale page. Sounds like a good a way as any to get this site off the ground and I might just get a Sedo commission or two out of it. Win/win right?

Hmmm.... why not scour Sedo, and others, for typo name sales and point links to all of them?? :!: I like it. Might be on to something here...

thanks, will hit you up if I decide to sell any ... :)

heh. typo pimp ... what could possibly go wrong ?

tread lightly in this arena - make it clear you're staying on the "good faith" side of any potential "tardmark" issues.

Look forwards to seeing this one developed. Agree that the value of it is in development as it's a nice one to be developed
