Hello,
My friends formatted his laptop, and he installed XP pro (before formatting he had XP home edition) now his cd rom won't read cds. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks.

Not totally sure but it seems to me that it could be a driver problem.

Does the computer do anything when a CD is placed?

If you know how, check your BIOS. Make sure the CD rom is reading from the correct drive.. I can tell you how to look into your BIOS but I cannot be held responsible for any damage that your laptop may incur while you fool around in there.

Check what make the CD drive is and download the appropriate driver from the manufacturers website.

If it worked before, reinstalling an operating system wouldn't change the BIOS settings anyways.

Yes but it would delete the driver software. Tell him to go online and look around for the cd driver (as in the software). Just install this and your ready to go - you have to do this with any extra items also (such as NIC Cards).

Good luck!
