Newbie here trying to modify the 3col_leftNav template in DWMX 2004. I would like to have the 3 columns reach the footer on the bottom for each page. I don't care much for the floating look it has now.

http://www.door2doorcomputer.com/cee/index.htm

I would also like to add a "you are here" indicator on my two nav bars. When a visitor is on the faculty page, for example, I would like the top nav item 'faculty' to keep it's orange background. Likewise for the left nav bar items, but obviously the offwhite color.

Thanks in advance!
Eric

P.S. Any advice on the two issues I stated above are appreciated!

very professional. Some of the images don't connect together towards the bottom but other than that, it looked great!

It looks great! Just make the bottom of the tables line up correctly.

Thanks for the replies! Any ideas on how to extend the columns to the footer? I bought a book on CSS and have a little knowledge of HTML, but can't seem to figure it out.

I like the green. It's very earthy and that's good for a University. The yellow feels a little intense... it's like too yellow of a yellow. :gl:

I also think the same.

Ok! I for one am not a fan of white backgrounds, so should I just choose a different shade? ...tone it down? ...different color all together? The university colors are the green background and the yellow bar under the header, so I would like to continue incorporating those two colors in the site.

I am working on that! I got some advice on a different forum about wrapping the 3 divs for the #headlines #navBar and #contnet up in a wrapper div. I bought a book on CSS and am trying to find other resources to figure out how to do it, but haven't been successful yet.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks for the all the replies so far!

P.S. I'm also working on a 'you are here' indicator by having the current page link highlight. Advice?

I heeded your advice and just went with a different color. Please let me know what you think.

Yes, I like the lighter yellow/creamish color... it's much easier on the peepers! :cy:

right... the three columns...

can you post the code here?

What I think you are doing is having a big table with 3 <td>'s and smaller tables in them... like this:

Code:
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<table>
<tr>
<td>Something here...</td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

what you need to do is have the "inside" tables with a height of 100%. That will stretch them to the bottom.

Like this:
Code:
<table height="100%">...

Very nice - I viewed it using FireFox 1.0.2 on XP SP2 at over 1280x960 resolution.

The font size for the navigational elements (left and top menu bar) appear larger. I would make them the same size (but, perhaps bold) as the main content block in the centre.

Good work!

Thanks for the tip, but I am not using tables. I am using CSS.

I'll try that out and take that into consideration. Thanks!

its deinfatly a nice site! i like it

1st thing. you have 3 divs, wtih borders id suggest removing the order on one touching side of a div (so on the left do a border-right:0px; that will tidy it up a bit. (and then same for the right side

2nd thing to get the divs lined up this might help you

if not theres more on there

The example looks good. I'll study and make changes to my site accordingly. Thanks!
