Hello,

I am fairly new here and have a question about hosting.

I am buying new domains. I am developing some and parking others. I am moving slowly. Trying to learn so I don't blow a wad of cash. I need a host where I can host many domains. I would like to have 100 developed names by next summer. Minisites. This is assuming I can figure out how to get them to generate some traffic. I will have some youtube sites and affiliate sites as well as Adsense. I shouldn't need a huge amount of space but I do hope I need a lot of transfer. ;)

My last host would allow unlimited names but all the files had to be put into subfolders of my main domain. I would rather keep them separated more. Having several names in different folders in one account was kind of a pain. I didn't do it for long and I'm sure I could have gotten used to it but I figured there had to be a better way.

I assumed that I needed to get a reseller account to keep the names separated. I guess I assumed that's how the pro's do it. After some checking I found that many places with reseller accounts seem to charge additional funds for each name/account?! Don't want that.

I am looking for any opinions from the pros here at NamePros.

Do I need a reseller account?

I can afford $25 a month but would rather get a lower cost host if possible. If I can get a host for $5 (as an example) then I have the potential to buy one or two domain names a month as well.

There are several posts on NamePros that got me thinking about this. One host had an offer for $1 a month (magmahost) and several people bought the deal. They seemed happy with the plan several months later. Well except one person that got a bad service rep.

Is there a way to host several domains with a shared account? Does it involve using subfolders under one main domain?

Honestly for $1 it may be worth learning to deal with. My last host was pretty good at $9.95 a month. There were many months several years ago that my main site was doing 20 gigs a month in transfer. 5 gigs was nothing. I had several people approach me trying to get me to switch hosts. When I sent them my site stats not one back then could even match the deal I was getting. I had videos on my server of the properties that I was selling.

Anyway, I just figured that if I combined my host of $10 with my email of $6 a month I could get a new/better host for only a few dollars more, or maybe even less? I can run my email through one of my domain names. I use earthlink now, as I started with their service several years ago. Their email is not bad but their tech support kind of sucks. I have had email trouble a few times and all the service monkey could tell me was "well, it's working now".

Please give me your opinions on hosts.

I am looking for a low priced host. Actually the lower the better, I'm cheap by nature.

I prefer unlimited transfers. I have read a little here and I know they are not really unlimited as there are limits on everything. Maybe I should say unmetered transfers.

I would like unlimited space (insert 'unlimited' disclaimer here). I have had 1.3 gig on my main site in the past. Honestly most of it were files waiting for someone to download them. I probably won't use that much space but I would like it just in case. Today most of the hosts that I checked give way more space than 1.3 gig anyway so this point may be moot.

I prefer Linux as I have a few scripts that I have used in the past and I am familiar with Linux. Is there any reason that it would be better to run Windows? More scripts? More options?

I would like some suggestions on what the pros use when they develop names? How do you host all the names? Do you use a reseller account or a shared account? $1 a month sounds fantastic. Maybe too fantastic.

I wish I had found NamePros a few years ago. There is a bunch of great info here and some outstanding people. I hope that someday I too can help a newbie.

I hope I gave you enough information.

Thank you in advance.
Steve

If you plan on making YouTube sites and having 100+ active websites, you should be looking at a dedicated server ($70+ per month)

Whilst at the moment it does sound like you could fit on a good quality, non-oversold host at around $5 per month, you really can't expect to host hundreds of websites, including video sites, for anything under mid-high $xx per month.

As for hosting multiple domains with one account - the only way is through addon domains, which do create sub-folders in your public_html folder.

You could look into reseller hosting - which could be a nice option for you. This way you can create multiple accounts, and each has its own cPanel access, and all are seperate from each-other (i.e. they don't create any sub-folders for each new account you add)

To be honest with you (as I go into a bit below), you really can't expect to pay a low price, get a lot of disk space and bandwidth, and get a good quality service. It's impossible. If you find a quality host who offers a lot of disk-space and bandwidth, it won't be cheap. Anywhoo...

I'll just leave you with this. When choosing a host, you have a choice:

Price, Quality and Service (Service as in, 'lots of' space and bandwidth)

You can only choose two ;)

Thanks for the reply.

My youtube site will only be an entry site for youtube. I hope that's the right term. I will not store any video files, although I thought about that too in the future. But for now just an entry site of sorts. You will be able to visit my site and watch videos, byt the videos will stream from youtube.

I have read the "you can choose 2" here on NamePros a few times. I believe that's true in many areas not just domaining. Whomever came up with that should have trademarked it. It is a great saying. Guess I should have paid better attention when I read it the first time.

Thanks again for your info.

Steve

I should have asked.

Do you use a single account with sub-folders or do you use a reseller account?

A reseller account will best suit you, however I strongly urge you contact any hosts you're interested in prior to signing up, and tell them about your situation and what you intend to do. This way you limit your chances of getting suspended or the like for misusing services. I would also recommend starting with a low end package and upgrading as the need arises, so look for a host that allows free upgrading.

If you are in search of reliable web hosting provider which allows to host unlimited domain names within their web hosting plans and will meet all your expectations, you will make good decision to choose apthost.com web hosting services. Just find out what is reasonable for your needs and pick something that will support your site on into the future.

If you have to start with just few sites then you can even start with the small packages.
Ans when your needs increase you can easily upgrade. :)

I asume you need to calculate how much is needed and just place the request in the proper section . Possibly that will speedup somehow finding right solution for you

I use HostMonster.com I don't know how much they will charge you for the amount of space you want, but their customer service is some of THE BEST! They have 24 hour support and they have helped me a lot.

I suppose you need to have 2 steps done: first you need to specify how much you need and then go to the web hosting requests section.

Well, you might start even with a VPS. But it should be a very powerful virtual machine. However a any video sharing network should be placed on a load-balanced server infrastructure os it would handle the load.

You can always check the webhosting offers where companys list there plans and such for you to choose from.

Look forward to seeing you there. (its under the market place near the bottom)
If you know what you want then come on and check out the hosts.

I would recomend a reseller also. If you're going to do video hosting check out my link. With the reseller you can make nice commissions selling the resller package without much experience because the company does it for you. If you get just a couple of people to join then your hosting is paid for. Its $44.95 a month and there are no extra charges. We have our own video producer too and free auto responder and other features that would cost hundreds of dollars if you got them on your own.

Just an advice, contact the hosting provider with your exact requirements and get their agreement. Also one good advice mentioned above was start with limited webspace and then upgrade it as you go on adding new sites. However, again, check with webhost providers on this. Sometimes, due to tech limitations, if you have to upgrade to different plans, then some webhost ask you to move your data to new space. So it's effectively closing down your old account and moving to new account.

his is really hard to find outstanding hosting but some below points could make difference.

1) Reliability
2) Instant support
3) cheaper than others but service is equivalent to others
4) Server Response
or you can take care about review and price/

hmm.

1. for video hosting you need ffmpeg server(that limit number of people offering that service).
2. You have 100+ site a normal resaller account or share account also also do but if your traffic is high shared hosting no use.

3. dedicated server may mtch your need but its too costly so probably you may not choose it.

But you have one option that is VPS hosting account with FFmpeg installed. But i am not sure is there any host provide reseller features in it. you may have to talk 2 them.

I have new Ffmpeg hosting providers in my signature link. but they offer shared, vps, dedicated and reseller but i am not sure they will give the combination that suit you.

You better talk 2 them in IM that may get u a solution.

Hope this info is useful to you

I'll suggest you go for a virtual dedicated server.

I think you should be advanced user of the certain host to say about that beforehand.

I think you could probably find a shared solution that fits your needs or you may need to go with a VPS. Many shared hosts offer unlimited domains and unlimited transfer.
