I have not put up my domain name for sale as of yet although I have been thinking of selling. However, I just received an emailed inquiry for my domain, http://www.generalhospitalhappenings.com as follows:

Hello,

We are very interested in purchasing your domain
generalhospitalhappenings.com
We understand the value of domain and will not waste your time.
Let me know what price you would accept for this name.I look forward to
hearing from you.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
xxxx

The "From" section of the email only says Admin, and only a first name was given at the end of the email.

However, when I looked at the properties of the email I could see that the email was from [email protected]

Does anyone know anything about corpweb?
I am not in the biz of domain buying and selling so I do not have much perspective on all this other than what I have been reading here. I desperately need advice on what I should ask for price wise.

From the content of the letter, it appears the writer is poorly educated and it is most likely not a legitimate thing. They will likely try to get you to turn the domain over prior to paying.

You can safely ignore these jokers.

I would respond that you require more contact information before further discussion of the issue can occur. If they provide a full name and phone number or other relevant details, you might then respond with a figure around $2500 (or whatever $ amount you hope to get for the name). Good luck.

If you would be asked at next message to purchase an appraisal for your domain, be careful, it is a well known scam.

Don't assume it's a scam. They stated that they "understand the value of the domain", so reply without an asking price and tell them to throw an offer. If they want to buy it and know the value of the domain, give them the opportunity to state a price. If they do not list a buying price but return the message telling you to make the first move, let them know that you have multiple parties interested in the domain and that they have first dibs because they emailed you first. Even if this isn't true, it tends to work quite a bit. They should come back with a price. If they tell you to purchase an appraisal to see how much the domain is worth or ask you to hand over the domain name prior to receiving your payment, it is a scam. Often times emails such as this are sent out and result in the "buyer" asking you to purchase an appraisal from a website, which they own, and then don't follow through with the domain purchase.

It's not the "corpweb" part that would reveal any shadyness... it's what's after the @ that makes the difference.

That being sais, I wouldn't consider it a scam either. You know better than to hand over the domain without payment and you won't used a provided link for an appraisal either. So, you are in control.

Just repeat their statement regarding value and ask them for a formalized offer and see where it goes. Unless it gets to a point where they are asking you for money, the domain or an appraisal, they're just an interested party and should be considered as such.

Can you explain this further? What should I look for and why?

What do I do if they reply and say it is against their policy to make offers without an initial offering price?

Does anyone have any advice at all on what my domain which we are currently discussing, is worth? Its a domain URL I have owned for over 6 years and it has always pointed to a very popular site among soap opera fans, which I also operate.

BTW, I want to thank those who are taking the time to respond. Please keep the advice coming, I appreciate it so much!

to be honest I can't really see any value in the domain. Id say reg fee.

All you have to do is reply to them and ask them to make you an offer on the domain.
They will do one of two things :

1.Reply with a offer.
You then consider whatever it may be and negotiate with them

2. Ask you to get an appraisal done.
You then delete the emails and forget it ever happened. (its a common scam where they will ask you to get an appraisal done at a specific appraisal company which will be their own or a company that they are affiliated with. Therefore they get money for it. They will then have no more contact with you after this has been done as they never intended to buy your domain in the first place, they just wanted your business through the appraisal company)
the annoying thing being, theres nothing illegal with what they are doing. Well....theres no way to prove if that the were'nt really interested.

Anyway, just send them an email saying you are currently considering offers.

Rob :)
