Hi,

I think it would be good if there was stricter requirements for posting in the wanted thread. Some people blatently ignore the buyers requests and post names which have no resemblence to their requirements

e.g. jawn posted a request for "Need prouncable LLLL.com names"

He got replys like

sensexguru.com
gigoloclub.com
capguru.com
capmentor.com

Is there already something in place to counter act against this?

thanks
kev

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
it is actually already in the rules the following are extracts from the rules thread:-

Please only post those domains which you believe best "match" the originating request.

Attention sellers: Please offer only those domains that are in accordance with the buyer's request. If the buyer said "only .com", then expect a warning or post deletion for posting a .net or other extension. If the description is vague, for example "I want a valuable domain", then we'll probably let folks get away with most anything. If the buyer asked to "send domains via PM only", then please honor that request. Extraneous posts are subject to deletion.

It seems that people want to neglect reading the rules. Fair enough some leeway is ok but some people are blatantly cluttering the threads with unrelated posts/offers.

The rules are in place, and most people follow them. But no matter what the rules, there are going to be those who ignore them. That's where moderators AND other members enter....

Yes, it's called "report bad post" which is the little red triangle with the exclamation point. When you see a problem -- report it. Please. :)

Yes, and it's the best way to get a staff member's attention to a problem. The person does not know who reported them, so you don't have to fear retaliation. So by all means, please use this feature when you see an issue.

We issue warning points when a member commits any serious infraction, or makes a pest of themselves by repeatedly committing minor ones. Every situation is different of course, and we look at them on a case-by-case basis.

Once a user reaches a certain level of warning points, their account is suspended. 8-X

Maybe it needs a moderator of its own. Like the Free Resources section, that section is much better now that Morph is keeping a watchful eye over it.

Maybe the appraisals section could also get a mod of its own.
Like a rent-a-cop, well... more like rent-a-mod. :tu:

The problem with Report Bad Post IMO is that often I'll see the post I've made to the Mods has had several views but still no action or even a reply to me.. at least reply and say, someone will look into it or Dave, you're full of yourself or something... ;)

I flagged this months ago Kev and we did have a thread on it but I cannot find it anywhere.

I reported bad posts for about 2 weeks and the mods deleted the posts but I did not have the time to continue this practice.

My argument was slightly different in so far as I was getting annoyed with people starting of threads and then not bothering to update them.

People were asking members to post names of domains the THEY WANTED and then they did not even have the common courtesy to keep the thread updated.

This is a extremely annoying practice and can only be to the detriment of the Names Wanted section, which (and this is only my opinion) has nose dived in terms of quality because of both the practices Kev and Myself have mentioned.

We certainly want to resolve and answer every single report, but I admit that one does slip thru on occasion, depending on many factors, like the urgency of the matter, who's on duty, etc.

And in some situations, a moderator might look at a reported thread and not reply or act on it because they aren't sure what to do, or they might not have the powers to do it.

We will try to improve our communications in this area, to make sure all threads passed along reach some type of conclusion.
