OK, so I got some domains and they ain't doin much with PPC right now. I want to develop my own website so I can fill the domains with lucious content! Then I plan to throw up some banners and other ads in a bid to make some money (or at least so they pay for themselves).

Where do I start?

I've heard of hosting - and that seems to range from $3 per month to $XXX per month. I'd like to pay no more than $10 per month to start out.

Can someone please run me through the steps I need to take to get my own website up and running (from start to finish).

THANKS!!!

That doesn't seem to help. I need a step by step guide of how to set up my own website and populate it with content.
Thanks!

Ouch well this is going to be a long article lol. I will try and summerize it for you.

First thing you want to do is secure an idea. A good idea for what you want your website to provide to it's visitors to make them keep coming back. This can be free, or paided. Either are a good way. Free generally comes with ads to allow them to earn the cost for hosting the website. Paided make money off the site for the service they provide generally because it is either more server usage than the average free service or it takes more time. Such as graphic design and well hosting itself being one of the more popular ones. Once you have done this you need to get yourself a host. A host is a service provided where a company stores your websites on servers that put it on the internet. There is many hosts on this forum and many many hosts on other forums. This is ahuge market so I am sure you can find a host for you :), if not PM me and I shall hook you up with some good ones. Now don't go for cheap.. When it comes to host, just like normal products. You get what you pay for. It costs alot to pay for support techs, server bills, etc. If your website is going to be big.. It will generally cost withinthe $20-$60 range. If you are looking just for a simple starter website probley around $4-$10 range. Once you have secured yourself a host. You need to figure out what do you want the address to be. By address I mean do you want a .com? A subdomain from your main host? A .info domain? You can get help with that in other topics. Aswell as where to get these .com domains or .info or other ending domain at.

Now you have the main package, the website idea, the hosting, and the domain :) Now you are ready to being your work on your website. You can buy hosting after your website is complete. But try and get the domain as fast as you can since domains go very fast. So grab it while it is avaliable. Now to get more help on your website you will have to google some articles on html and other website stuff or hire a webmaster or web designer to make one for you.

From than you will need to find a way to upload. The most popular today is either web uploading through your control panel or FTP Uploading through a FTP client. Some good FTP clients are smartftp.com, and filezilla. For the beginner I suggest smartftp.com since it has alot of documents to help you out.

Now just start building. If you are intrested in ads. Try looking around in the Marketing section of his forum. There is a few articles on the PPC (Pay Per a Click) networks that you can display there ads and get money when people click on them. Do not click on your own ads :P

That is all I can think of. Enjoy your internet experience and I wish you good luck with your website!

Thanks alot iNod. I heard you can buy software to help design your own webpages like Frontpage and Dream(something). Do you recommend these for beginner or are they for the pros?

I would suggest adsense minisites if you don't want to buy that software and develop your own sites.

OK - one last question....if I choose a real basic hosting package, is it easy to upgrade to a better one down the line if my site becomes very popular?

Depends with your host ;)

I'd recommend Dreamweaver, although it's expensive and you need a lot of experience before being able to successfully use it completely and take advantage of it's excellent features. FrontPage is not great, as most of the content it generates is only good for IE browsers, and the HTML code is cubersome to edit yourself. But it's definately a better beginner tool to learn about websites

Your best bet would be to find a host that offers a site builder or, at the least, ready made templates for your sites. All you need to do then is add the content.

I also advice to start trying with minisites (quick and cheap) and if they work well you can then dedicate more time to the real good ones and develop a more complete website.

Download a trial copy of Dreamweaver and try it out. There is a tutorial to help you through the first time which should give you a basic understanding. From there you just have to keep tweekin with things until you are comfortable with all its properties. I too am just a beginner but this Dreamweaver seems to be the way to go. I have been searching reviews and talk (how I came to be here) about various products and this one seems to have the best reviews. I have the trial download right now and its pretty easy to follow. I intend on buying it as soon as possible as we are starting a new business soon. Good Luck. Oh, I also recommend trying to design your own template first and see what it takes. If its beyond you then purchase a template and go from there.

I agree with Caveman, that will be the cheapest way for you to get started.

most site builders suck and since they need to be edited you must learn html anyway and of course you have to edit graphics, so templates for newbs is not the way to go.

Get a copy of photoshop, or dreamweaver, or any of those programs that allows you
to splice up your site, or very basic table designs use front page.
