Hey guys,

I'm pretty well a newbie to the hosting game. However, I've got a database website ready for launching and it was made via MS SQL. I'm thinking of setting up my own server for the website but am unsure of what I need and how to go about setting it up.

Is there a recommended tutorial out there I could use?

Thanks!

For what you need to run a legitimate server and connection, you're much better off paying for hosting.

Pay for hosting if you want to avoid many tech issues.

If your just getting started then its not a good idea to run your own server. You'll make your life alot easier to just pay for hosting.

If you are trying to make your own server to host your site, make sure that you have enough tech knowledge. Or else you have to find some tech support from outside.

MySQL is already set up on any server which web hosting company use for shared web hosting. You need to find web host with MySQL and only create new database and then move all from the one you have got.

That's a very complicated thing, use it from the dedi provider and have no headache.

Hosting from home is probably the best option for you at the moment. You would need a server with all softwares installed, firewalled and a connection that is fast enough (good uplinking speed) and and ISP that actually allows you to host your site.

Easier option is to spend around $8-$10 per month for a shared hosting account and pass the headaches to the host. You will get a hosting account with PHP/MySQL installed and everything you need to run a dynamic site. If you need host recommendations, post here.
