Want Already Owned Domain

Hello,

I am hoping you folks can help me with this. I want a domain name that is already owned by someone. The domain is registered with GoDaddy, not in use ( nor is it parked ) and is worthless ( I checked ).
The person has had it for 10 years, and it's up for renewal next month. How should I approach this person about acquiring the name? How much should I offer for a domain that isn't worth anything?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you!

I was thinking that, rather than putting a $$$ offer in the initial email, maybe, I'd email the owner, asking, that IF they were considering selling the name, could they indicate a price they may have in mind? If they replied, then, one could negotiate from there.

This may, at least, give an indication of what the owner considers a value.

Any opinions on this approach?

.

That's how I always enquire, short & sweet - I think so far everyone has replied usually with a price or to say they intend to use it later. Works very well for me :tu:

(just remember endusers often don't care about traffic so it may still be valuable to them even if it gets none).

Unless you come up with a really good offer, I don't think the guy is going to let it go just like that considering that he/she has already owned it for 10 years. Let the person decide the price and bargain your way through from there.

This person has had it for 10 years so it is worth something to him, seeing he hasn't got it parked or any website on it that it might have sentimental value to him. Like others have said I would just wait to see if he renews it and if he doesn't then snap it up otherwise hit him up with an e-mail asking if he would sale and then negotiate a good price with him as you must want it if you care enough to join up on here and ask.

Well you can backorder it too thought there is little chace this guy would drop the domain.

If its a name or something like that he must have a sentimental value for it, I guess.

I would'nt assume it has been the same owner for 10 years either, I have names dating back as far as 1996 but I'v only owned them 1 to 3 years. If the name was bought in a drop auction it often keeps its original registration age.

If someone gives me lowball, he may either end up not getting the domain or end up much higher.
If you really want it, don't ever lowball since you may end up much higher.

This might be an interesting thing to do, punch the domain into estibot or valuate and let the board know what the number comes back with, without exposing the domain, i know these services are random but whatever... could be a interesting gauage... Also this person could have purchased this domain in those 10 years, if you want to rattle the pot, you better have your top number in place.
