Ok, so I was playing with available one-word dictionary domains in the Estibot bulk utility and was a little taken aback by this appraisal:

binocularly.com $95,000 D-:

Okaaay. So I figured, what the heck, I'll bite. It's only $6 to register it. I'll just park it and see what happens. Should be good for laughs.

What would you guys appraise it at?

Anyone have a clue why Estibot would rate it so extremely high with zero to no OVT?

Lots of other one-word dictionary names with better OVT scored much less in value.

Anybody have a guess why this is so highly appraised by Estibot?

Bug. Thanks for reporting! I'll fix it in no time :)

EDIT: OK, I fixed the bug. It's still showing some value. Just one of those things, I guess. It's like a Turing test - all the data point toward high value, yet the I see no particular value in this domain, but the machine thinks it has value.

Hope I'm wrong, but I'd appraise this one at reg fee. Sorry!

EDIT: Actually, it wasn't a bug in my program. It was due to the unreliability of search engine data. I had to program another filter to accommodate for the fluctuation in the available search engine and popularity data.

Hey Josh, thanks for responding. You can ignore my email. :hehe:

Not a problem that the true value is much less. I kind of figured it would be. I am glad I could help you fix things. I am sure the tool will only get better in time.

BTW, darn, there was another name that I bought at the same time that was being valued at $16,000: incoordination.com

Now it's valuing it at $880. Still respectable I guess. At least this one does seem to get lots of searches.

Anyway thanks again for the great tool. I am having a lot of fun pounding on it, as you may have noticed if you track such things. :tu:

I don't track such things, but it makes me happy that you like to use it. That's what I made it for :)

I only track things on a very general level and occasionally I look at what's been searched, and see what kind of results have been produced, just to stay on top of things. I wish I could track things more so I could detect the aberrations better, but there is just not enough time...

I always emphasize that the idea is to try and estimate a price that a motivated buyer might be willing to pay, provided of course that such a buyer could be found, which is usually the hard part. The way I built the system was to try and have EstiBot simulate a motivated buyer, one who does keyword research and then puts in an offer. That's why you may see surprisingly high valuations for some domains - the appraisal is based on the assumption that the sale happens. If the sale does not happen, then the value is basically imaginary.

As previously noted, unregistered domains are by definition worth nothing, but what we want to see is the potential value. Hand regs do occasionally sell for nice amounts of money.
